Our recent work on the interplay between Rx fire, woody plant expansion, and grassland biogeochemistry shows how tree type can impact carbon and nitrogen dynamics upon the return of fire—recently highlighted in @NatureClimate. 'Return the Burn' 🔥: nature.com/articles/s41558-0…
amazing work by @MartinJBaur!
Fire increases soil moisture losses but accelerates vegetation water uptake—and leaves ecosystems containing plants with less control of their water content. Great global analysis using remote sensing data and led by PhD student @MartinJBaur

Very cool paper connecting biocrust functions with hyperspectral remote sensing! 🤩
New team @JGRBiogeo paper, "Hyperspectral Imaging Predicts Differences in Carbon and Nitrogen Status Among Representative Biocrust Functional Groups of the Colorado Plateau," led by @dyan2001 w/ @ecology_awesome, @miggeograph, @mostafajavadian, others agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.…
& snapshots from @ArchboldStation, an absolute ecological wonderland! kudos to the Rx 🔥 crew working in 35°C + 70% humidity, phew
some scenes from @KonzaLTER 🌾 the tallgrass prairie sure is magical!

Sharing some of my fire journaling over the past month. I like to set my intent about the focus of journaling. Sometimes I like to be more artistic and emotional and other times I like to document to basic fire information or evaluate the larger fire environment and behavior.

Postdoctoral position on the ecology and biogeochemistry of ground #fires! Come work with us to understand how #peatland ecology and greenhouse gas fluxes respond to fires! Field sampling, remote sensing and lab work as part of a UK Space Agency project.

AGU abstract submission is open and we'll be running a SOM frameworks session again this year!
Feel like your work builds on, challenges, or integrates soil organic matter controls? We'd love to have you submit to our session!

Psyched this paper is now out in the world!
Got together with an amazing expert group to review SOM conceptual frameworks. The inspiration for this work was to help PhD student Katie that had little background in SOM prep for prelims. Hope its helpful!

Interested in how the relationship and controls of #soilorganiccarbon abundance and persistence vary across the globe and its pedoclimatic zones? Then check out our new paper in @GlobalChangeBio by @vonfromm_sophie et al. who compiled this amazing dataset: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/…

Biocrust is so beautifully portrayed in this film project I was fortunate enough to be a part of 😍 I am so grateful for the opportunity to tell a whole new audience (outdoor recreation enthusiasts!) about how amazing #biocrust is! #scicomm youtu.be/XguYw16YsDY?si=UvuX…
while field sampling at @ArchboldStation this week, I learned something so dang cool. this is the gopher tortoise, a keystone species that digs burrows that provide shelter for at least ~360 other species! not only that…
…these moths produce silken tubes that anchor the shell to the soil—with tube masses penetrating up to 10 cm—to protect larvae on the underside. how wild is that??
sadly, the gopher tortoise is threatened due to habitat degradation. you can learn more about the tortoise research program at Archbold here: archbold-station.org/program…. I’m a plant & soil type of gal, but the gopher tortoise won my 💚 this week.
