Residents in the Chicago suburb of Evanston are facing a large wave of tax and fee hikes in the city's newly proposed 2027 budget.
The city is asking for an 8.9% property tax levy increase, a 25% water rate hike, and doubled taxes on both natural gas and local amusements.
The primary culprit driving the proposed tax hikes is, predictably, skyrocketing city employee costs and government retiree pensions.

Calling Jews refugees who showed up and took too much land skips 3,000 years of history. We prayed toward Jerusalem every day, buried our dead there, and kept the agricultural laws of that land alive in exile. The Jewish people are indigenous to Israel. I just woke up and realized this show can go to hell @Apple. Released in 2025 and 2026 it took you 10 episodes to muster up the courage to admit these characters are actually Jewish. Despite constant gatherings of them, zero mention of Israel or antisemitism even during the Passover seder episode. Every single time I spend time with Jews these issues come up but in your fantasy world the characters don’t care and aren’t affected. It’s the exact same problem I had with Boston Blue. I can’t believe this ad exists, and yet this doesn’t surprise me at all.
This is one of the most comical ads this election cycle. Yes, Americans are chatting at the grocery store about how they can’t buy groceries because their tax dollars “go to Israel” 🙄 😂 nevermind the fact that Israel has invested 100% of military aid in the U.S. economy since Oct 7, and has also purchased over $1 billion *additional* in arms, according to DoD. Federal military aid is also prohibited from being spent on anything other than U.S. arms, so the line about healthcare is even more comical. El Sayed and his Islamist fans like Cenk Uygur want and expect American voters to be so stupid they never check.
Not only is this ad insane, conspiratorial, and antisemitic — it is also flat out false. El Sayed isn’t for the people of Michigan, he isn’t even for America. He is for the Muslim Brotherhood.
