It was a disastrous mistake in 2004 to scrap family doctors. I tried and failed to bring them back. Will this government do any better?

As a GP practice we lost a third of Nursing home residents in the first wave due to the decisions made by leaders to discharge infected patients to homes It’s hugely concerning that this was done without mitigation of the risks #BREATHTAKING

2004 wasn’t the time Family Doctors were scrapped 2010 seems to be the moment the decline started @Jeremy_Hunt you failed because you didn’t invest in GPs Funding was cut 2014-2024 by 20% per patient, training more but no funding to retain Then there was funding of ARRS 🤷🏻‍♂️

Unregulated expansion of PAs started in 2015 It took 10 years to finally get the Leng Review 15m after being published it is still not being followed, sadly there are some who are still pushing for undiagnosed (undifferentiated) patients to be seen first by PAs in GP practices0
Physician Assistants were first muted as an idea an concept in the early 2010s as a way of alleviating the workforce shortage in General Practice, helping GPs deal with some of the more simple and mundane tasks to allow GPs more time for patients.  A 🧵 rcp.ac.uk/media/ffdai1fx/com…

Referrals to secondary care from GPs used to be treated as they were, requests for further support, investigations, and advice from one experienced colleague to another They have now, to the detriment of patients, been treated as merely optional This cannot continue
New Substack 🗒️ Dodging Blows Referral was meant to be a dance between two clinicians. These days it feels more like a boxing match, with the exhausted GP's guard up, protecting their already battered body . Who wins when everyone is fighting? davetriska.substack.com/p/do…

NHS Productivity Lack of beds & infrastructure is the problem I have a standard kitchen in my house and can cook for 20. (Just) I ask another 2 people to cook with me but don’t increase the number of ovens or hobs. We get in each other’s way and can now only cook for 15🤷🏻‍♂️
I'm still waiting to see much, if any, substantive commentary on the @HealthFdn report on NHS productivity. Anyone have any good reason why such an important issue is garnering so little attention?

Sir Jim Mackey, speaking at the board meeting today, cited improved GP access as a reason for an increase in referrals for secondary care earlier this year. Survey evidence suggests people are finding it easier to make appointments. He needs to look at the data @YvetteCooperMP
