@IFADPresident Alvaro Lario joined major Indian partner institutions and sector leaders for a South-South and Triangular Cooperation (#SSTC) roundtable to better leverage India’s wealth of expertise in responding to priorities in partner countries.
In an effort to move beyond individual exchanges and study visits, discussions at the roundtable focused on building a structured, demand-driven model that identifies where India’s experience can be adapted to local contexts, connecting knowledge with finance and institutions.
“Success will ultimately be measured not by how much knowledge is exchanged, but by whether cooperation translates into better opportunities, stronger institutions, and tangible results for smallholder farmers across the Global South,” said IFAD President Alvaro Lario.

IFAD Dialogue on Smallholder Priorities and South-South Cooperation
It was a pleasure to participate in the high-level dialogue on “Smallholder Priorities and Opportunities for South-South Cooperation” on 7 October 2026 at the UN House, New Delhi, during the visit of Dr. @IFADPresident, President of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (@IFAD), to India.
The dialogue brought together key Indian and international development partners to explore opportunities for advancing South-South and Triangular Cooperation in agriculture.
The discussion was moderated by Mr. James Marc de Sousa Shields, Country Director, International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) India. Union Minister for Finance & Corporate Affairs Smt. @nsitharaman today chaired a meeting with senior officials of Department of Economic Affairs @FinMinIndia to review key outcomes of the BRICS Finance Track and prepare for the final BRICS Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors meeting in Mumbai during September 9-10, ahead of the Leaders’ Summit.
Following the successful meeting of Ministers and Governors in Jaipur last month, preparations are now underway for the Mumbai meeting - with a strong team of women bringing leadership, expertise and experience to the Finance Track, guided by the theme: “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability.”

IFAD and the Government of #India are scaling up successful income‑raising interventions across agricultural value chains to reach 150,000 people in rural Mizoram over the next 6 years.
The new US$45.78 million financing agreement builds on an earlier IFAD‑financed programme in the region, which successfully raised incomes by 43% through improved market access and integrated farming practices.
In alignment with India’s priorities for inclusive and climate‑resilient growth, the programme’s second phase will support smallholder farmers and rural enterprises to move from subsistence to market‑oriented production – improving how crops and livestock products are produced, aggregated, processed and sold.

The TN-RISE Women Startup Council, in collaboration with Flipkart, hosted an Orientation and Training Workshop today in #Chennai. The event was organised by the Tamil Nadu Rural Incubator & Startup Enabler and aimed at empowering women entrepreneurs by providing market access and vital linkages.
Key participants included Ms Divyadarshini (IAS), CEO of the Tamil Nadu Rural Transformation Project; Ms Shreya Singh (IAS), COO of the Tamil Nadu Rural Transformation Project; and Dr Uma Maheshwari (IAS), CEO of TN RISE. The workshop's primary objectives were to educate attendees about e-commerce, introduce the Flipkart Samarth program, and foster an inclusive entrepreneurial ecosystem.
