I agree with pretty much everything here. Conferences CAN be in relatively cheap locations, with University dorms available for housing, with strong COVID precautions & promise to house you free if you get stuck due to COVID, etc. We've done that at #RLDM. /1
Today I spoke up at a #FENS2022 discussion event about pandemic effects on mentoring. I spoke about my frustration regarding transmission mitigation at the meeting. I sorta highjacked the discussion and I'm sorry about that, but I just couldn't not say anything and 1/n

How should we understand the brain? What are good categories to study it, things like "perception", "cognition", "emotion"?
Paul Cisek nails it!

Here, we asked a question that turned out to be a pretty interesting one: what is the representational geometry of value? biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…

I've seen people get tenure with less than 1 paper a year. I've written tenure letters recommending they get tenure.

This is ridiculous, @SfnTweets. My lab has paid thousands of $ for submission & registration assuming in person. Our travel budget is limited, and trainees want to present, get feedback, and meet scientists in person.

ALT The sigmoid is plotted along with the mean choice behavior across all subjects and recording sessions (n = 4 animals recorded across 525 sessions). Error bars reflect the standard error across sessions. Source data are provided as a Source Data file. D MRI scans of the brain areas targeted for recordings (red = vmPFC, pink = sgACC, purple = pgACC, blue = dACC). A single representative subject is chosen for each area even though two subjects were recorded for each. The right panels denote the targeted brain areas on both transverse and coronal planes.
