Andre Dawson had a devastating knee injury in high school. Scouts lost interest. He didn’t get a college scholarship.
Many would have quit, but he walked on at FAMU, earned a scholarship, got drafted and then made it to the Show.
Even as he battled knee problems his whole career, he won the NL ROY, NL MVP, and 8 x Gold Gloves.
Result: Hall of Fame.
Today, I was proud to present the Governor’s Medal of Freedom to Baseball Hall of Famer and great Floridian Andre Dawson. His distinguished career in Major League Baseball, his contributions to the sport, and his lasting impact on our state have earned him this award.
From his childhood in Southwest Miami, to his college days at FAMU, to his legendary MLB career, “The Hawk” has represented Florida in the best possible way for decades. His generous support of FAMU and its baseball program has helped generations of student-athletes succeed. The Governor’s Medal of Freedom is the highest honor I can bestow on any Floridian, and Andre Dawson truly deserves this recognition.

LA Times with a fascinating example of how journos like to COMMUNICATE things without SAYING things.
The thesis of the article is that ICE is going to somehow prevent people from voting. This is, according to the author, Bad.
Now an ordinary person might have some questions at this point. Like, how could ICE possibly prevent anyone from voting? Doesn’t ICE detain illegals that aren’t allowed to vote? If so, how would anything ICE does impact the vote in any way?
But journos are NOT ordinary people. Journos have special training that allows them to bypass such irrelevant matters.
No joke - These questions are not even *considered* in the article, let alone answered. Seriously! Read the whole thing! They’re just … not there at all. They don’t exist.
Instead, the author simply presents as fact that ICE will impact the vote in some way. There is no explanation or even a hint of an explanation as to how this could be true. No mechanism is even hinted at.
The author also mentions - almost as an aside - that the DOJ has sued LA for allowing illegal voting. Is the DOJ right? Is the DOJ lying? These questions are not presented. The author does not care. Such questions are unimportant and shall not be acknowledged.
Call me old fashioned but I think we deserve a higher QUALITY of hackery from our journos. I don’t want transparent nonsense like this. I want to be gaslit until I don’t know what’s what anymore.
Do better journos.
Yes, non-citizens in fact should not be voting xitter.cf/latimes/status/2111204…

Two crucial moments permanently changed our relationship w/the regular season:
1) 2000: Washington beats Miami, Miami beats FSU, all finish w/1 loss. BCS computer picks FSU for title game, UM 2nd, UW distant 3rd
2) 2001: Oregon wins Pac-10 outright, 11-1. Nebraska gets trucked by Colorado, 62-38, to end season. Finished 3rd in the B12 (didn’t even qualify for conference title game). BCS computer sends Nebraska to BCS championship Rose Bowl over the Pac-10 champion
Everything since then has been a slow decay regarding the preeminence of the regular season
