We also have an unnecessarily long write-up on why allowing Scheffler vs. Nico was, in fact, bad for the US (even if it's a pretty tiny effect): datagolf.com/live-blog/presi…

Not defending the US leadership, but the 8-26 foursomes record since 2023 is really cherry-picked:

An hour ago, @datagolf had the U.S. at nearly 60 percent to win the event. Now, it's back down to 35 percent.

Putting numbers via @DataGolf from Day 2 here at Medinah. Two players from the US had an above average day putting. The number of opportunities to bring the crowd to life that missed was a LARGE number out here today.

If numbers are your thing, @DataGolf's model suggests the Internationals have 54% chance of winning the Presidents Cup for the first time since 1998.

And the bottom 20: Yesterday's results are not included. If Scottie can go 5-0-0 this week, he'll be back to a PAR of zero.

2026 Presidents Cup teams: By DG rank, US has the top 6 players and 9 of the top 10; INTs have the 8 lowest-ranked players and 10 of the bottom 11. Average skill is +1.58 vs +0.86. As lopsided as that feels, betting markets still give the INTs ~20% chance of winning.

As far as picks go, one interesting thing to highlight is that Maverick McNealy was in our top 12 Americans by DG rank (19th overall). But he just hasn't had any big results (44th in DG Points rankings, 45th in OWGR, and 15th in Presidents Cup points).

Ryan Gerard was also in our top 12 and not picked, but he is a more obvious snub than McNealy. The full table with all American and International players is here: datagolf.com/presidents-cup/…

Scheffler has earned 123 DG Points in 2026, which would be the 18th-best season since 1983 (10th-best non-Tiger division). His +2.92 true strokes-gained average is the 12th-best since 1983 (4th-best non-Tiger).

Wyndham Clark, Cam Young, and Matt Fitzpatrick are the only other players (so far) to crack the top 250 seasons this year—ranking 125th, 149th, and 159th respectively.

With the top 50 for next year settled, here's the transition matrix from start-of-year status to current FEC position. - 31 of last year's 50 (really 49, w/out Detry) finished in this year's 50. - not a great year for lower-status players, apart from Alex Fitz (in "others").

Finally, here is our projected movement from various start-of-year categories to year-end FEC position. (The starting 71-100 group also includes other miscellaneous full-status players.)
