LOWER MACUNGIE TOWNSHIP, Pa. —Every four years, Pennsylvania plays a critical role in deciding who sits in the Oval Office. This year, in the same diners, farm fields, suburbs and union halls and on the same front porches, the state may also decide who runs the House of Representatives. Pennsylvania is home to four congressional districts drawn so tightly a stiff wind could flip them, and they could determine whether Republicans keep their slim majority or hand the gavel to Democrats. wapo.st/4srrKj0

Wouldn’t be surprised if Collins agrees with Jackson on this =>
Quite a line from Troy Jackson on Sen. Susan Collins: “I guess I’m wondering why she’s not beating me by more.”

P.S. if you think political enviro isn’t toxic for Rs, take it up w/ very good GOP pollsters who know how to model red states & weight surveys accordingly. That’s the data GOP groups use to determine spending. What happens 11/03? Who knows. But the enviro is what it is.

Can party washed out in wave mitigate damage? Yep. Some targeted incumbents usually survive cuz weren’t caught off guard/work hard every year. Massive party $$, deployed wisely, also effective. Rs benefited in ‘06. (Of course, Part II of that wave crashed on them in ‘08)

That House/Senate races are tight is typical for wave elections. Most are decided on a knife’s edge - it’s that in a wave, most are won by the party that rides the wave. The blowout is in the aggregate - not the margin in individual contests.

NEW from MAINE: On the political unicorn that is @SenatorCollins and why she’s as competitive, or more so, in a blue state as many GOP senate contenders are in red states (and why she might lose anyway.) bloomberg.com/opinion/articl… @opinion

Running Indies in red states to sidestep the Dem brand challenges tends not to work. Where Democrats have real shots in red states they’re running good Democratic candidates =>
News: doesn’t look like the blue wave is going to hit South Dakota GOP Sen. Rounds leads independent Brian Bengs 57% to 36% in the deep-red state, according to a new poll conducted in mid-October by Quantus Insights. semafor.com/article/10/21/20…

Joe Manchin won in WV in 2010. There was still a rather large GOP wave that year.

For much of the past century, the steel towns of this valley — Mahoning, Trumbull, Stark and Columbiana counties — were where Ohio Democrats banked their margins. Trump unmoored that hold in 2016. Now Republicans cannot win the state without the valley’s working-class voters. With polls showing competitive Senate and governor’s races, this corner of northeast Ohio will have an outsize impact in deciding who wins both. ( GIFT LINK) my latest from Ohio: wapo.st/4ic4wsr

Congress typically isn’t interested in challenging presidential power. So …. =>
Tillis. Not holding back. Also saw @JohnCornyn just tweet “Lindsey would be appalled.” But key question…what can/is the senate going to do about it?

Youngin’s may not realize but UCLA Football has not been worth talking about since peak of the Donahue era in 90s. Small pockets of promise in 2000s were mirages. Chesney may be UCLA’s best FB coach since Dick Vermeil. And I would have said that without beating Oregon. Winning is gravy.

So this is what it’s like to field a competent football program? It’s been since the 20th Century so I forgot. #GoBruins
