Oh, also his brief appearance in Tinker Tailor/Smiley’s People is one of the greatest wordless performances of all time.
My hot take is Stewart was the best Macbeth of the age. Better than McKellen. He captures the evil of the man and no one was better at showing a character in mid-thought. His “if it were done”particularly captures that. And yes I love Picard. RIP

ON! A sport it is to see an enginer hoist ON his own petard! A petard is an explosive used in siege warfare. It has nothing to do with rope.
"Trump’s BBC lawsuit has now become about the central questions that would have determined his fate had Jack Smith’s January 6 prosecution gone to trial." My latest: bit.ly/4yzJ1Yz

Douthat has spent 11 years publicly talking himself into a permission structure to vote for Trump, even though he knows better & despite J6. It’s depressing He clearly hasn’t spent much time in the democratic backsliding political science. He blithely dismisses 20 years of theory & data - including Trump & Orban cases - with one counter-datapoint (the recent Hungarian election) to protect what really matters: his cherished ideological prior that it’s morally acceptable to vote for Trump
1. The new MAGA line on Orban—“if your entrenched ruling party can lose everything in a wave election, you are not living in an authoritarian state”—is fallacious, and something they plainly don’t believe. Unless maybe they’re prepared to abide Trump-style abuses turned on them.

If you cannot loudly and firmly resist "humanoids" called Plato teaching our youth, you have no place in any movement that calls itself "classical." It's time to draw some lines in the sand. I know which side I am on. Do you?

I was invited to review an @OxUniPress book on gender identity for Notre Dame Philosophical Reviews. You’ll never guess what happened next. 👇

Anthropic's Claude helped select hundreds of targets for the opening wave of Iran strikes. There's a good chance that one of them was the elementary school where more than 100 girls died. My latest @NonzeroNews piece. nonzero.org/p/iran-and-the-i…

Hey @UChicagoPress, any chance you want to reissue Philip Rieff's The Triumph of the Therapeutic? Everyone from the left and right - Frederic Jameson, Christopher Lasch, @roddreher - loves this book. The $256 used price tag is killing me.

This really is great. So much to break down. Like even in his fantasy of literacy he imagines himself reading about a pirate on a boat, like even in fantasy the most he could read would be Robert Luis Stevenson. It’s your fantasy dude, imagine reading Joyce!
Andrew Tate explaining why he doesn't read books is the funniest video I've watched all week 🤣

Gotta say, first woman expounding male psychology that I can actually endorse.
This woman has an elite level understanding of male psychology. I was today years old when I realized that what she says is true. Men love quests.
