Dear @TasmanianLabor MPs (especially the good hearted women) please listen to just the first couple of minutes of this evidence. Know what it is that you are publicly ‘ defending’?
The first part of a powerful statement from the wonderful Elle Trahair @save_greyhounds at the inquiry into banning greyhound racing in South Australia hearing this morning. Many important points covered, relevant to all states. Please do listen. I have been told recent race footage of greyhounds injured on South Australia tracks was shown at the hearing and there were people in the room visibly distressed. Important that everyone sees the truth. The live stream kept dropping out so missed a lot after this. Will post another section below and some parts of the RSPCA evidence. The transcript will eventually be available here: committees.parliament.sa.gov… #bangreyhoundracing

#politas Surely, sometime, @TasmanianLabor must cut its losses and stop its wholly unconvincing defence of vastly unpopular and anachronistic non ‘industry’? Can’t they see the disillusion it feeds? #GreyhoundRacing

#deadgreyhoundsaus - Tasmania Very late in the day on a Friday evening, the Hobart Tasmania report from last night appears. In the report - a fracture for one greyhound, death with severe bleeding for another. Aeroplane Bernie in footage below suffered a right hock fracture. 90 days of incapacitation & suffering ahead if they don't kill him. And in a pre-race-meeting trial, young greyhound Demon Hunters suffered horrific injuries - "a compound right Radius/Ulna fracture and severe bleeding". He was killed at the track. His suffering would be have been extreme. So young. He was born in March last year, syndicate-owned, never raced, now dead. #politas while politicians ‘strut and fret’ and delay dogs pointlessly suffer and die for gambling fun. You want ‘kindness’ you say. Start here perhaps? @TasmanianLabor @anthony_dodd1

#politas. And still some politicians support this. And others declare themselves perennially ‘undecided’ Do they ever see any of this? Yes, politics should be kinder, and some compassion to poor bloody greyhounds would be a nice signal. #GreyhoundRacing
Hobart Tasmania just now, Aeroplane Bernie clearly injured tries to keep running. No report until at least tomorrow. Hope he is ok. Greyhounds do not deserve to be treated like this. They deserve a fair go. They deserve a life where they are allowed to run freely and safely. #bangreyhoundracing Replay is currently available: form.tasracing.com.au/formgu… Fasttrack: fasttrack.grv.org.au/Dog/Det…

#politas So many discarded greyhounds languishing for months waiting for homes. We don’t ever see #GreyhoundRacing ‘industry’ defenders stepping up to adopt. They’re happy to enable the problem and leave solutions to others. Sad.
After a visit to check out the Greyhound Adoption Program, I have a new love interest. 🥰 His name is Bill. Bill is a gentle, engaging three year old boy, loves pats. He’s one of 27 dogs at GAP waiting, wanting for a home. #politas #LetGreyhoundsRunFree

NSW RSPCA with new clarion call against cruel taxpayer enabled #GreyhoundRacing. Nothing ‘activist’ about it. Listen up @TasmanianLabor. Times have changed. Let’s not be the very last to stand for compassion and kindness in a rotten old world. #politas

And you think the greyhounds enjoyed it, particularly when they slow down? What do you think happened to them then? What did you do with your slow ones?
As a person who raced greyhounds for thirty years, I can definitely say it is not a money making exercise. An enjoyable hobby.

Sydney Morning Herald yesterday. Fully applicable in #politas of course. Please listen up @JoshWillie1 and @TasmanianLabor
Replying to @smh
@smh editorial 17 October 2026 nails it: “the greyhound racing industry has failed to live up to evolving social standards and is now shorthand for animal cruelty….There is no reason the greyhound racing industry should exist here…. It is exploitation masked as sport."

Absolutely. It’s not a ‘sport.’ It’s the cruel mistreatment of animals, many of them butchered when they have no further use.
Strong @SMH editorial arguing, rightly, that with last night's closure of Wentworth Park dogs after 90 years, it truly is time to get on with banning dog racing altogether as they have in so many other parts of the world. NSW is truly an outlier in still having it. #NSWpol

Shame on @abcnews among others for not even mentioning that a dog broke its leg on track during their ‘celebrations’ How @ChrisMinnsMP can justify spending taxpayer dollars propping up this shite is beyond comprehension.
Of course they had to break a greyhound's leg on the last night at Wentworth Park. Among the known injuries last night was a fractured right hock for Rosa Marie (in footage below). While they were all boozing and celebrating, Rosa Marie was at a vet clinic in pain. 90 days of incapacitation ahead. Unlikely they will kill her - wouldn't look good to have a dead dog on the record for closing night. Can't see any mention of her serious injuries or any other injuries from last night in media reports. The public just gets fed filtered rubbish Report: thedogs.com.au/attachments/e… Fasttrack: fasttrack.grv.org.au/Dog/Det… #bangreyhoundracing #wentworthpark

#politas An honourable mention for Tas as part of global reform wave in today’s SMH. Meanwhile, inexplicably @TasmanianLabor remains stubbornly attached to discredited, cruel, unpopular, outdated #GreyhoundRacing. Do better @JoshWillie1 🙏

So brave. Ukrainian rescuers never give up and risk their lives every day. They deserve our support. As does Ukraine itself.
Manya and Oleksandr are driving fast under anti-drone nets. They are evacuating animals from the frontline. Manya says, “Are we stressed and tired? Yes. Are the animals scared? Also yes. Will they get a chance for a better life soon? Yes”. And this is the reason why we keep going

And they wonder why we’re all so cynical about politicians.
Minns Government’s new “Independent” Office of Animal Welfare subject to control and direction of Agriculture Minister “An independent office of animal welfare that is subject to the control and direction of the very Minister it is supposed to have independence from is nonsensical. It defeats the entire purpose of the office and doesn’t pass the pub test” - @JedGoodfellow @Alliance_AAFA allianceforanimals.org.au/ou…
