World No. 1 Magnus Carlsen has teamed up with World No. 5 Nodirbek Abdusattorov for a training camp at his holiday home in Spain, ahead of the Total Chess World Championship Tour Pilot in Budapest from November 10-20. Carlsen shared glimpses of the camp on Instagram on Saturday with the caption: "Someone brought a chess board into this house." Joining the two are GM David Howell and Carlsen's longtime coach, GM Peter Heine Nielsen.

European aerospace company Destinus says it has completed 1,750 Ruta B1 cruise missiles, with monthly production now close to 300 units. The company says the system has moved from prototype production to full serial manufacturing. Destinus also produces the T150 turbojet engine, navigation system, airframe, guidance and avionics in-house, giving it control over most of the missile’s core production chain. #Europe

Bad news for Russia. Good news for Ukraine and Europe.
The European company Destinus has ramped up serial production of its "Ruta Block 1" cruise missile. According to the company, 1,750 units have been completed, with a monthly production rate approaching 300 units (as of late October 2026).
📍 Production: Primarily in the Netherlands (including proprietary T150 engines, airframes, and avionics). An expansion in collaboration with Rheinmetall in Unterlüß (Germany) is planned.
🇺🇦 Ukraine: Confirmed—the missiles are being supplied and are currently in service. President Zelenskyy confirmed their use in combat operations in 2025 (with ranges exceeding 250 km). The Netherlands is funding approximately 700 units. Debris has been reported in Russia.
🚀 Block 1 Specifications: Range >300 km, payload ~150 kg. Features low-altitude flight, terrain-following capabilities, and operates independently of GNSS.
Future variants: Block 2 (>700 km) and a planned Block 3 (up to 2,000 km).
European-scale production, free from Chinese components—with a monthly output now exceeding what Europe produced annually prior to 2022.

Remember Kostyantyn Vlasenko, the soldier from Ukraine’s 30th Mechanized who was recently rescued from the battlefield in a spectacular evacuation using a drone?
Today, he was awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine.
For 491 days, since June 2025, he had continuously held his position near the village of Senkivka in Kharkiv Oblast, carrying out missions. For 232 of those days, he was completely alone, after his fellow soldier was killed while attempting to withdraw.
After being severely wounded, he was forced to amputate his own feet with a knife. Yet he remained in radio contact, continued relaying vital battlefield intelligence, and received food and medical supplies delivered by drones.
Finally, in October 2026, after numerous failed attempts to rescue him, he was successfully evacuated from the battlefield using a heavy-lift drone, in what was the first rescue operation of its kind in history.

My apartment in Bucharest has been without hot water or heat for almost 3 weeks... Overdue repairs of pipes that were first laid down in the 60s.
Saw 2 of guys in a hole doing work while 5 of their colleagues were smoking, joking around and giving them instructions.
I shudder to think how bad it would get if our infrastructure was actually under attack.
And I am in awe of Ukrainian energy workers who manage to repair and restore services under fire.
