Super excited to share this preprint of our study uncovering a novel PRP4K - CHMP4B / Vps32 splicing circuit regulating autophagy that is conserved over 600 million yrs of evolution between amoebae & humans, funded by @CIHR @NSERC_CRSNG #Tweetorial 1/10 biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…

I don’t believe British Columbians should have to live with a bag packed and ready to flee their homes every summer. We should have a government that is ready to prevent, fight and respond to wildfires, not one telling them to prepare for its failures.

BCWS is to blame. Now Summerland is burning down. We’re cooked in this province.

In baker's yeast... an organism that has already evolved to handle few introns. Do this is S. pombe and I will be impressed.
Do eukaryotes need introns? Seems like they don’t. Very nice use of synthetic genome engineering in yeast to remove all introns and lose the splicosome. cell.com/cell/abstract/S0092…

Totally agree - we need to prepare and contend with a new reality of forest fires after years of forest mismanagement, lack of investment in forest fire response, monitoring and preparedness, and in an era of record high temperatures. No excuses @MarkJCarney
Replying to @DanielKitts
There's no silver bullet. In my humble opinion, the "solution" involves: - A massive effort to manage fire risk better around human settlements across Canada through fuel control and prescribed burning (Collins should not have burned down). - A revolution in 'smart' forestry to maximize human value chains and ecological integrity while minimizing fire risk. - Improved monitoring, detection and risk prediction. - Investment in fire response resources, including fire fighting personnel, equipment and technological development (especially re: drones) - Better emergency management and evacuation planning and protocols - Better awareness and education in everything from fire smart home building and construction, urban-wildland interface planning, and fire risk at home and in the workplace - Learning to live with more smoke in our future (better home and workplace air filtration, access to masks; municipal protocols for smoke days, 'clean air' respite centres) - Better inter-regional and international coordination between provinces, states, and Canada-US on all of the above. - And for the long game: Ambitious climate action. A lot of this stuff is taking place already. But it's way too little, and too slow.

Then quit tariffing the shit out of our country you morons. Every dollar we spend on illegal tariffs (so says your supreme court) is one less dollar spent on forest management. #WakeUp
What is REALLY causing the increase of Canada’s smoke in our skies? Read in the comments below ⬇️ Thank you to our Michigan GOP Congressional Delegation for calling on Canada to do what they said they were going to do, and to be a good neighbor.

WOW!🤯
Had fun putting this video together 😎 Whole-body imaging is opening new possibilities for biology. Two new preprints from @DeepPiction showcase what's possible when whole-body imaging meets molecular biology: 🔬 DISCO-seq: anatomically guided single-cell transcriptomics. biorxiv.org/content/10.64898… 🚀 LipiGo: next-generation targeted lipid nanoparticles. biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/… Seeing the whole picture changes the questions we can ask. Happy #FluorescenceFriday!

🚨 Anthropic just showed a 24-minute workshop on how to actually do prompts for Claude. Taught by the people who built it. Free. No registration. No paywall. I've seen $300 courses that don't cover what they teach in the first 8 minutes. Watch it and bookmark it now.

Canada is utterly, objectively not part of Europe and I resent this bizarre project by Carney (and apparently the Europeans too, now) to try to convince us that we are.
Europe is not just about geography, it's also about the values and principles we share. That’s why we are glad to welcome Canada at the European Political Community meeting today to discuss common issues. We will be talking about connectivity, but also resilience to the threats we are all facing. My doorstep ↓

You mean he through Carney under the "Airbus" 😅
BREAKING: Justin Trudeau just through Mark Carney under the bus on an unhinged rant about China throwing BAGS of unlimited cash at Canada. He says China has unlimited money and demand for Canada 🇨🇦 but we can’t do that they don’t share our values.

It's pretty obvious at this point that the Carney plan is to try to keep this country in a perpetual state of hate and fear towards the US and use this to keep himself popular. His video today, with its long and gratuitous evocation of the 1812 war, makes this clearer than ever.

Mitochondria-ER contact sites: Mitochondria-associated membranes regulate calcium transfer, lipid metabolism, and mitochondrial dynamics. Visualizing #ER and #mitochondria simultaneously in living cells is a prerequisite for studying this interaction. This spinning disk movie shows the abberior CELL LINE Mito-SNAP / ER-Halo a stable U2OS cell line with SNAP-tag at a mitochondria-specific locus and Halo-tag at an ER-specific locus. Mitochondria are labeled with #LIVE590 #SNAP, the ER with #LIVERED #Halo, and Hoechst serves as a nuclear counterstain. What you see is real-time organelle dynamics, no transient transfection, no expression variability between experiments. The stable genomic integration means the system behaves the same way every time, which matters when you want to compare conditions, timepoints, or perturbations. A ready-to-use cell line with both compartments stably tagged opens up experiments without the overhead of building the system from scratch. What would you use this for in your lab? #LiveCellImaging #OrganelleDynamics #SNAPtag #HaloTag #FluorescenceMicroscopy #abberior #fluorescencefriday
