Elon Musk said yesterday that @Tesla will probably rent Optimus robots rather than sell them.
I’m guessing you’d pay a monthly subscription or have it usage-based instead of paying to own the robot.
The payment would cover insurance, maintenance, repairs, etc. The economics make sense for the company, and it creates a lower barrier of entry for consumers instead of something in the $30k+ range, which would be like buying a new car.

I’ve driven every Tesla extensively and hands down the Cybertruck is the best Tesla ever made.
It drives like a sports car.
Rear-wheel steering lets it turn tighter and smoother than a sports car.
Steer-by-wire makes it light and nimble.
The Cyberbeast does 0–60 in 2.6 seconds, faster than a lot of supercars.
And it's built tough, with an ultra-hard stainless steel body that shrugs off dings and armor glass.
Nothing else on the road handles like this, moves like this and is built like this all at once.
Every time I walk out to it, it still feels like the future showed up early and parked in my driveway.
Kids wave at it.
Strangers stop and smile.
My boys think it's a spaceship.
One day it won't be on the road anymore, and I bet people are going to miss it.

The Cybertruck’s death hits me harder than any other vehicle. It’s like a child dying too soon after a tragic accident. The Model S and X lived longer lives and served their purpose… I wasn’t as sad then.
The Cybertruck never even got a proper refresh. I was looking forward to some epic quad-motor version. There were so many possibilities that have yet to be explored. What happened to the Cybertruck that could cross short bodies of water? I still want that! Will the Cybertruck even get HW5?
The Cybertruck taught me to never judge someone based on their looks. Even if you don’t find the Cybertruck beautiful in the traditional sense, it’s the best vehicle I’ve ever driven. People who immediately write the Cybertruck off because it doesn’t look good to them are missing one of the best-made vehicles in existence. Period.
What will I do now? Keep the Cybertruck of course. The world loves nostalgia. Pokémon cards, remakes like Zelda, retro anything. As time goes on, the Cybertruck will be cemented as an extremely iconic vehicle.
There will be die-hard fans for literally decades. Over 100,000 Tesla Cybertrucks exist in the world and they aren’t going anywhere. My passion for the Cybertruck has only increased.
It’s a bittersweet goodbye because after experiencing the Tesla Cybercab, it makes me happy knowing the Cybertruck is leaving to create even more Cybercabs.
The world of abundance is upon us. But I’m not sure if that makes me excited anymore. What other sacrifices will be made to achieve this?
