ALL CLEAR: REOPENING OF N12 FREEWAY, K43, AND ABUBAKAR ASVAT DRIVE FOLLOWING PROTEST DISPERSAL
The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) advises all motorists that the N12 Freeway (Eastbound and Westbound) between K43 (Klipspruit Valley Road) and Abubakar Asvat Drive has been FULLY REOPENED to traffic, following overnight protest action.
JMPD and SAPS Public Order Policing units remain stationed in the vicinity to perform active monitoring and ensure continued safety and stability in the area.
Motorists are asked to remain alert when driving through the area.

URGENT RE-CLOSURE OF N12 FREEWAY, K43, AND ABUBAKAR ASVAT DRIVE DUE TO RENEWED PROTEST ACTION AND VEHICLE STONING
The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) issues an URGENT TRAFFIC WARNING to all motorists regarding a fresh outbreak of protest action along the N12 corridor near Lenasia and Nana’s Farm.
Despite earlier efforts to clear and reopen the roads, rioting has flared up again. Protesters have resumed barricading the roadway with burning tyres and debris, with reports of passing vehicles being stoned, posing an immediate threat to the safety of road users.
N12 Freeway (Eastbound and Westbound): CLOSED with immediate effect between K43 (Klipspruit Valley Road) and Abubakar Asvat Drive.
Law enforcement personnel are on the ground to contain the violence, protect motorists, and secure the precinct.
Motorists are strongly warned NOT to approach the N12 between Klipspruit Valley Road and Abubakar Asvat Drive. Please divert immediately via:
• R554 (Nirvana Drive)
• Golden Highway (R553)
• Impala Road (R558)
• Chris Hani Road
• Main Road through Eldorado Park
Do not attempt to force entry through closed intersections or near crowd clusters.
If you are already in the immediate vicinity, lock all doors, close windows, remain vigilant for thrown objects, and follow emergency diversions.
Adhere strictly to instructions from law enforcement personnel on the ground.
Further official communications will follow as emergency units work to secure the stretch of freeway.

On 02 October 2026, Public Safety through its JMPD units in Region F conducted a multidisciplinary Nightlife Blitz Operation targeting liquor outlets across Bertrams, Judith Paarl, Troyville and Kensington South.
The operation brought together Home Affairs, Environmental Health, and CRUM in a coordinated effort to strengthen law enforcement, promote responsible liquor trading and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
The City of Johannesburg remains committed to intensifying visible enforcement, promoting safer nightlife environments and protecting our communities.
