Responsible Artificial Intelligence (AI) and decent working conditions for journalists go hand in hand.
On 24-25 October 2026, the Federation of African Journalists (@FAJafrica) brought journalist leaders from across Africa together in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to discuss the responsible use of AI, how to tackle disinformation and ways to advance decent work for journalists.
With the support of its cooperating partners, @UnescoEast, the International Labour Organization (@ILO) and the European Union (EU), and with the direct engagement of the African Union Commission (AUC), @FAJafrica concluded the dialogue with the adoption of an action plan to advance decent work, quality journalism and responsible AI across Africa.

Our position on the MoU is clear:
It is null and void, doesn’t comply with the Law of the Sea, infringes on sovereign rights of third States and can’t produce any legal consequences for them.

Productive conversation with the EU’s Special Representative for the Horn of Africa Annette Weber (@EUSR_Weber) about our joint efforts to advance peace in the Horn of Africa, most urgently in Sudan where the EU as a member of the Quintet plays a vital role in advancing a Sudanese-Sudanese civilian dialogue. We also discussed efforts to de-escalate tensions in Ethiopia and Eritrea.
