At Christmas we mark the birth of Christ. A wonderful story of hope, humility and peace at the most special time of year.
Christmas is a time for making merry and seeing friends, but more than anything, it’s about family.
That’s why, to those working tomorrow and spending time away from their loved ones, I want to say thank you for keeping the country going.
I wish you all a very Merry Christmas.

Whatever happened to the PM's pledge to put'country before party'? Today was all about trying to save the political careers of @Keir_Starmer and @RachelReevesMP by pandering to @UKLabour backbenchers with higher taxes and more welfare. Party first, country a very distant second.

This is the truth about the worst Chancellor Britain’s ever had.

Yet more evidence, as if we needed it, that the Chancellor must be sacked. For months Reeves has lied to the public to justify record tax hikes to pay for more welfare.
Her Budget wasn’t about stability. It was about politics: bribing Labour MPs to save her own skin. Shameful.
BREAKING
The OBR says it informed Rachel Reeves as far back as ***September 17*** that the downgrade in productivity forecasts was offset by 'increases in real wages and inflation'. The deficit was in fact just £2.5billion
By October 31 that deficit had turned into net positive of £4.2billion. That basic forecast did not change from that point
So from what the OBR is saying it looks like Rachel Reeves and the Treasury were briefing ahead of the Budget that there was a £20billion black hole in the public finances that didn't actually exist
The £30billion worth of tax rises in the Budget are predominantly a consequence of her decisions to increase public spending, particularly on welfare, and have £21.7billion worth of headroom
As @Peston @PippaCrerar @hzeffman have all pointed out, it makes the Budget build up - and the narrative that big tax rises were coming because of a deterioration in the public finances - look frankly surreal in hindsight

FIVE THINGS RACHEL REEVES DIDN'T MENTION ABOUT THE BUDGET
1. The Budget confirmed an extra £165 BILLION of spending across this parliament, paid for by almost £100bn more in taxes and the rest from extra borrowing.
More taxes and more borrowing, to pay for more welfare. (1/6)🧵

Kemi destroyed Reeves' budget in the House of Commons today 🔥
Her budget's been exposed for what it is:
Raising taxes on hard-working people to pay for more benefits.

To help them get elected, Labour told a lie.
This is the story of one of the biggest deceptions in British politics.

Earlier this evening the Shadow Cabinet unanimously decided that new @Conservatives policy is that we should leave the ECHR. Here’s why - including some shocking case studies

The @Conservatives are - and always will be - the party of business, economic competence and fiscal responsibility.
As I told the @FT, that’s the foundation on which we will build the economy of the future: stability, lower taxes and living within our means.

Mandelson might have gone but, just as with Angela Rayner, Starmer dithered when he needed to be decisive.
Time and again he puts party above country. He has no backbone and no convictions.
There are now serious questions over what Starmer knew and when. We deserve to know.

Complete and utter rubbish - from a Conservative peer born in one of the poorest parts of Leeds (close to where I still live)! Nobody does hypocrisy like the political left!

Angela Rayner is finally gone.
But it’s only because of Keir Starmer’s weakness that she wasn’t sacked three days ago.
Britain deserves better.
