Reducing the number of #uninsured was supposed to decrease emergency room crowding. But as the uninsured rate fell to historic lows, emergency room use has repeatedly surged. More insurance coverage seems to correlate with higher #ED volumes.

We're in the midst of a Category 5 AI backlash that will likely slow the progress of frontier models. Fine – the frontier can wait.
But given healthcare's problems with quality, safety, access, & cost, thoughtful adoption there can't.

Maternity care deserts have remained unchanged over the past decade. But Medicaid cuts could further threaten access. So finds the latest @MarchofDimes report, which found that one in three U.S. counties are considered maternity care deserts, a share virtually unchanged since 2016

Amazing article on the multiple forces pushing this trend and insights on how health systems can catch the wave.
This cover article for @hfmaorg began with a question posed by HFMA senior editor @rdalyhealthcare: "Is this the last year of peak hospital performance?"
It culminated with a smart, thoughtful piece written by @HeySarahLo

My latest Substack: the irony of @ChatGPT Health's launch (it's awfully good) coming the same week as the first big lawsuit alleging a serious misdiagnosis caused by AI (in this case, GPT-4o).
What does it all mean for the future of patient-facing AI?

Happy 75th Dad!
Today I'm remembering your weirdness and your extraordinary capacity to love.
And for the folks out there who'd like to celebrate with me, go do something kind for someone. Make someone laugh. Put a little more good into the world.
Love you forever.

This is a big deal because HOPD imaging is a MAJOR margin driver for most health systems (and also why they spend massive money getting the newest, flashiest imaging equipment)
News: Per WH officials, Medicare intends to reduce payments to hospitals for routine imaging services to put them on par w/what doc offices get. It's the administration's biggest move yet on site-neutral payments. notus.org/healthcare/white-h…

The reason it's governors and AGs is because Democratic governors in KY and PA signed on when their GOP AGs would not. So technically it's 23 states + 2 governors (they can't take legal action in the name of their state).
