what I’m looking for in a community is people who take rat/EA ideas as given, and “yes and” them by talking about feelings with a non-berkeley-rationalist-dialect. “tpot” feels frustrating to me because it used to be close to this and
now isn’t. I just want a name for this

for an embarrassing amount of time I thought that Daniel Radcliffe and Daniel Craig were the same person

the problem is that the promised defined benefits were set at a level that’s inconsistent with how much you paid in, given demographic changes. that’s a genuine moral error committed by the people making the promises, and we need to address that, but that doesn’t mean denying there was a promise
i think that it mostly does make sense to think of your social security checks as something you paid into as a first order approximation
saw a young child in the ferry building holding a stuffed shrimp the ea brainwashing in this city has to stop

I'm not a doomer but I do think a lot about how the predicted Mayan apocalypse came within less than three weeks of AlexNet being published at NeurIPS.
there are basically two possible futures at this point. either we’re all going to die of the future is going to be Good beyond our wildest imagination. the trick is to hold this duality in your head and not be driven insane by one side
