We need to talk about demand charges. A common argument we hear is: once a site sets its monthly peak, can’t I just drive more sessions to spread that charge across more kWh?
There are two problems with this. One, it means paying the top demand rate and hoping volume catches up. Two, it puts ramp-up risk on the site, since new stations can see lower utilization in their first few months.
We believe battery-backed fast charging is the better way to manage this. At one Colorado site, we cut demand charges by 75% in year one. We unpack these strategies and more in our latest blog: electricera.tech/resources/a…

The team completed 500 amp boost mode testing today for our air cooled configuration of RetailEdge
We are targeting 7.5 minutes of boost capabilities to align with the charge curves of most of the EV fleet
We are also aiming for ~10 second start times but that is car to car dependent
