Joy means that the mechanism for monitoring/policing yourself for the comfort of others no longer takes priority. And when being yourself is so often a "wrong" way to be, being yourself without surveilling/"mitigating" yourself can feel perilous.

To feel joy, you have to be in yourself and in the moment. You're not worried about how you appear to others. You can't be both hypercritical of your existence while also reveling in it.

One of the cruelest things about Autistic/ADHD masking is that you learn to treat positive emotions as a warning sign that you're about to do something "wrong" and that it is therefore "safest for everyone" if you maintain a constant, low-key negative internal emotional state.

This video explains what todays case is all about and why we must #LetEveryoneEscape
Disabled residents and campaigners Georgie Hulme and Sarah Rennie are taking legal action against the UK government. They say the government is not taking "fire safety seriously" for disabled people. @claddag @nehagohil24 #Disability #DisabilityTwitter

Keeping an eye on @claddag legal case 6/7th. Am restricted to bed with risk to health if moved incorrectly. Met resistance at all angles - building management, housing association, social care, fire service. Had to buy own equipment but no way out at night. #LetEveryoneEscape

2/2 @claddag 's Judicial Review hearing of Government’s refusal to implement PEEPS in high rise buildings begins today. Govt promised to implement all recommendations but has since backtracked. Half a decade after Grenfell, @ukhomeoffice must do better. reasonableaccess.org.uk/supp…

1/2 In June 2017 41% of disabled people in #Grenfell died. 5.5 years later, disabled residents face the same nightmare as they did then. Ordered to stay put with no means of escape, they do not stand a chance. A stark reminder that Government treats disabled people as secondary.

CN: fire, death, systemic ableism…. The gov is proposing only disabled people in ‘high risk’ buildings get evacuation plans, despite these being a recommendation of the #GrenfellInquiry. Neither #Lakanal or #Grenfell were identified to be ‘high risk’ before the fires.

Seeing a hashtag around about trump being incontinent and various other stuff about his physical abilities. The guy isn't young, I don't know why people are somehow surprised he's picked up a few impairments? Choose one of another million things to criticise. There's no shortage!

Transcript: Good morning. NHS England's current visitor guidance may be discriminatory. It bars disabled people from having a PA or family member accompany them to hospital in the event of an emergency or outpatient appointment. This means that people may not receive safe care...

Only just seen this due to my twitter break. Absolutely gutted. Rest in power Mel.
I see the word has gotten out that we've lost a great activist and amazing human being today :( But Mel lives on in a powerful legacy of ideas and of values. (This is Laura Tisoncik, posting on her account)
Hello lovely people. I am going to take a twitter break deleting the app. I am receiving distressing information overload every time I go on here and don't seem to be able to moderate when I do and don't see it which is probably not good given I already feel out of control

The last straw for me has been seeing things about medical choices around ventilation. I don't want to bury my head in the sand but I also can't process this or do anything about it while living a crisis due to care provision being a mess from covid19
