Not every climate startup needs to IPO. Sometimes the right outcome is product-market fit, a sale to Schneider Electric, and calling it a day.
More on this with Andrew Beebe on the latest episode of Energy Empire.

Con Edison now wants battery projects to pay about $21M each in grid upgrades to connect. 25 projects canceled. 91 more at risk. 2.5 GW stuck in the queue.
Those batteries are supposed to help bring New York’s bills down. I asked NYSERDA chair Audrey Zibelman who fixes that.
“Electrons don’t vote.”
Audrey Zibelman on what former Australian PM Malcolm Turnbull got right: look at the facts, look at the engineering, and do what makes economic sense.

The most expensive power plant running sets the price for every electron on the grid.
Block cheap clean power and pricier fossil plants run instead. Everyone's bill goes up.

Voltus pays factories, warehouses and big box stores to use less electricity when the grid is tight. It has 8.5 GW of that today, and just raised $225M to get to 20 GW by 2030.

Google offered to pay for the data center infrastructure upgrades outright. The utility said no, because that wouldn't go into their rate base. They restructured it as a prepayment instead so they could rate base it anyway.
Result: everyone's bill went up $5.77 a month.

Diesel is $7 a gallon in some places and groceries are following it. Candidates in both parties are promising to bring costs down.
@JigarShahDC says the fix already exists. Batteries, solar, and American-built EVs are all sitting on the shelf. What's missing is a plan, and a government that isn't the bottleneck.
