Pat McAfee gets a tiny sample of what being a woman in sports, on twitter, is like and can't handle it
It’s been a fun October.. excited to get to Halloween. Here’s a couple fun screenshots from this month. I don’t know if Karey from Derry is real or not but, the picture on the left is from a very real man in Ohio. I’ve stayed away from my mentions and DM’s this month since these back to back days but.. I’m sure if I went in there now, I’d find some wishes for and threats of death for me. “Don’t read them.” They’re everywhere. Annnd.. They still exist though right? I just don’t know the person is in Ohio then? That’s where I’m at now. So I do get a bit fucked up when a couple days after The New York Times releases a “WE ARE ALLOWED TO AND SHOULD HATE THIS GUY” piece, a University puts a video out from their own page, indicating “we think he’s a corny creep here.” It’s a weird time. The things that get said about what my daughter and son and wife deserve are all rather wild as well. I haven’t talked to anybody about what the days were like leading up to Tennessee’s GameDay last year. There’s been some misreporting but in the ball park articles. Everybody in the “security” world was worried of a copycat incident potentially happening. GameDay was a few days out and we were the next huge gathering on a campus. The world, in front of the entire internet, just proved that we had gotten to a rather extreme place. The FBI.. alongside, Disney security, Tennessee State Police, Knoxville PD, University Police, everybody in area, all had the very same goal to protect the shit out of the area. FBI snipers were sent down there, huge presence of police.. it was a surreal moment. The conversation about the death threats I had been receiving in life was definitely a huge topic. I don’t think it was the FBI that suggested the Bullet Proof Vest, but it was certainly an idea presented by one of the security groups. We had no idea what to expect. Nobody had been in that type of situation before. Everybody wanted the best for everybody. I never felt safer and never felt more appreciative of the people that were around me that morning including the students that came out and did WAY more than they could’ve ever imagined for my soul. How’d we get here? I had to wrestle with that a bit. FBI’s sending snipers so me and the lads don’t get shot. That’s crazy. I don’t know if they teach how you’re supposed to handle these types of things in classes or something but, I was a bit rattled by the current reality of my World. I think what I realized was, when I talked about the Algerian Olympic Gold Medal boxer, and then I was HEADLINE Quoted and Captioned by platforms with rather large influence over certain communities, they left out the massive empathy part of the conversation that I had about the entire subject. I was labeled and immediately targeted. Such is life I guess.. since then, every mistake, misstep or misquote relaunches A LOT of folks into a frenzy of me being the worst person on Earth who needs to be eliminated, and they gain more and more folks who want me unalived or as they actually say it “Kirked.” I was created on the internet. I’ve been “cooked” and shit talked and criticized since I have memories. I am no where near perfect.. and there’s no way everybody is gonna agree with me but I had no idea that this is just what life would become. I’m trying my best in real time but.. I am to talk about sports and care about the future of sports. I owe everything to sports. I’m grateful as hell to do what I do. I literally try to love every minute of the incredible opportunities I get to experience but.. it’s certainly all a much different life than I could’ve ever expected. I try to give everything I have, all the time.. I am very sorry to those that despise me. The video is how I opened The Tennessee show.. I put on a USA Sports Coat and celebrated Ball. I love sports because it’s unifying. That’s all I’m ever trying to be… actually. & Connor.. I LOVE YOU BROTHER, I’m sorry I’ve brought you lads into all of this as well.

Pat McAfee wouldn’t last a day having the DMs and mentions of a local female sports reporter. TV or beat writer.

MLB literally admits that a salary cap wouldn’t change the thing they claim to be standing up for on behalf of “fans” (outcome based competitive balance) 😂😂😂
Competitive balance sits at the heart of the fight that will soon shut down MLB. So @TheAthletic took a deep dive into what the state of parity in MLB really is. @enosarris ran the numbers, the league and union were interviewed — and two takeaways stood out. Unlocked: nytimes.com/athletic/7716072…

For my old friends at @BaseballAmerica, I compiled the sizes of each team’s scouting staff. Note that many teams frequently renowned for their technology and analytics (Dodgers, Rays, Brewers) also have some of the largest scouting staffs in MLB. baseballamerica.com/stories/…

There are so many things we need clarified with the Jalen Hurts situation. Were only team doctors involved, or were there also league doctors, independent doctors, ringers in London, Hurts' personal doctors, etc? Who ultimately made the call to send him out against the Jags? What info did the team's PR office have on his condition when they listed him as a full participant in practice, gave him no injury designation for the game, and never downgraded him to questionable once the initial clot was discovered?

In the last few months: The Orioles owner said he bought the team because all of his friends who had sports teams made more than he ever could in private equity The Padres sold for $3.9B, 63% more than the previous record The Angels then sold for $4.0B, beating the Padres record So why then are billionaires lighting money on fire by bailing out other billionaires from the apparent financial ruin of owning a baseball team? It's because they're all making billions in appreciation and teams like the Yankees can sell just 16% for $2.6 BILLION (MLB of course waived the 15% cap lol) with an additional $1B in tax-exempt revenue bonds to refinance debt in their other business ventures Seriously, who would pass up on an infinite money glitch like that? I'm begging you all to realize owners just want a cap to make accounting easier. They're lying about competitive balance to create a narrative that is only in place to win them cost certainty

I have reviewed underlying court documents & other evidence including that set forth in the exhaustive podcast by @jonwalczak. I am convinced that she was killed prior to the attacks likely by someone she knew personally. This case should be reopened. @ManhattanDA @AlvinBraggNYC
A young doctor living two blocks from Ground Zero bought three pairs of shoes on the eve of 9/11 and never returned, triggering a decades-long debate over whether she died a hero or vanished into thin air the night before. The reason might surprise you. On the afternoon of September 10, 2001, Dr. Sneha Anne Philip had the day off from her hospital residency. Born in Kerala and raised in upstate New York, the 31-year-old physician lived with her husband, Dr. Ron Lieberman, in an apartment at 225 Rector Place in Lower Manhattan, just two blocks from the World Trade Center. Around 4:00 PM, she spent an hour chatting with her mother online, mentioning plans to check out items at a nearby store. At 7:18 PM, security cameras captured Sneha inside the Century 21 department store directly across from the Twin Towers. She used her American Express card to purchase $550 worth of bed linens, three pairs of shoes, and a coat. A sales associate later reported seeing her browsing alongside another woman. When her husband returned home from his shift around 11:30 PM, Sneha was not in the apartment. Accustomed to her staying out late with friends or visiting art galleries, he went to sleep unconcerned. The next morning, at 8:46 AM, American Airlines Flight 11 struck the North Tower. Sneha never returned home. In the harrowing days that followed, her family held onto a conviction: Sneha was a compassionate physician who lived within eyesight of the inferno. Seeing the disaster unfold outside her door, she must have run straight toward the burning towers to set up triage and administer first aid, perishing when the structures collapsed. Yet when NYPD detectives launched a formal missing persons investigation, a parallel, baffling reality emerged: The shopping bags containing the linens, coat, and shoes from Century 21 were nowhere to be found, neither in the apartment, nor in any recovered vehicle or subway locker. Just three minutes before the first plane hit, the security camera in Sneha’s apartment building captured a woman matching her height, hair, and build stepping into the lobby. The woman waited near the elevator, peered back out toward the glass doors, and walked back out onto the street. Morning sunlight glaring off the glass prevented a definitive facial match. Police dossiers uncovered personal complications, workplace friction, and night-owl habits that led investigators to argue she may have met with foul play the night of September 10, with the chaos of 9/11 burying the evidence. Her husband and family vehemently pushed back, accusing investigators of smearing her character to avoid listing an Indian-American woman among the official heroes. A prolonged courtroom battle followed: In 2004, a Surrogate Court judge refused to declare her a 9/11 victim, ruling she legally died under statutory presumption years later. Her family appealed relentlessly. On January 31, 2008, the New York State Supreme Court Appellate Division overturned the verdict, ruling that as a physician living on Ground Zero’s doorstep, running toward the wounded was entirely consistent with human duty. Her name was officially engraved onto Panel S-66 of the National September 11 Memorial, certifying her as the 2,751st victim. Yet out of the tens of thousands of forensic remains recovered and DNA-profiled at Ground Zero, not a single trace of Dr. Sneha Anne Philip has ever been identified.
