Donald Trump’s War in Iran has given Putin a lifeline so that he can wage kinetic war in Ukraine and propaganda wars in the🇪🇺and 🇺🇸.
The Ukrainians have done the heavy lifting by destroying 🇷🇺🛢️ oil and gas revenues, unfortunately Trump’s war has the raised the price of oil.
🛢️ Oil and gas revenues are a key source funding the Russian state budget and its war against Ukraine.
A few years ago, nearly a third of Russia’s budget relied on oil and gas revenues: 30% in 2024, 23% in 2025, and down to 17% as of September 2026.
Less oil money means fewer resources for the Russian war machine.

🇨🇦🇷🇺 CANADA’S CARNEY HAS A MESSAGE FOR PUTIN: GET OUT OF UKRAINE
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney was asked by POLITICO whether he would seek a meeting with Vladimir Putin at an upcoming international summit in China.
His answer was unequivocal.
“No. I don’t.”
Carney said his message to the Russian president would be straightforward: tighter sanctions, withdrawal from Ukraine and an end to Russian war crimes.
The conversation then turned to reports that Russian hockey teams could return to international competitions, including a potential appearance at the World Junior Championship in Alberta.
Carney said he had not been aware of the development but described it as “unwelcome.”
The contrast raises a difficult question for international sport.
While Russian forces continue their invasion of Ukraine, Ukrainian athletes have been among those killed, and sporting facilities have suffered destruction.
Allowing Russian teams to return would inevitably reignite the debate over whether international sporting participation should be separated from a country’s conduct in wartime.
Carney’s comments also underline a distinction in diplomatic approaches: engagement with Moscow is not the only way to communicate a position. Sanctions, political pressure and support for Ukraine can send a message of their own.

Ukrainian businesses can now defend themselves from air attacks — with their own radars and electronic warfare equipment, under military command.
Ukraine's General Staff approved new rules that streamline how companies can use radars, EW systems, and related equipment for their own air defence.
What changed:
— Applications to use this equipment are now reviewed within five working days
— Radio frequency allocation requests: same five-day window
— Approved companies receive "special user" status for the radio spectrum, operating under the same rules as the military
The crucial limit: private doesn't mean independent. Company air defence groups work alongside the Air Force, plugged into Ukraine's unified air threat detection network. Military command decides whether to open fire or hold fire on any target. Groups report results after each mission. Only vetted equipment from official registers is allowed.
Why this exists:
Russia keeps striking Ukraine's industrial and energy sites with drones and missiles. Ukraine's air defence can't be everywhere at once, so the state invited businesses to add protective layers of their own — without breaking the unified command structure that keeps air defence coordinated.
The program launched as an experiment in November 2025. By March 2026, the government let companies temporarily receive air defence equipment and ammunition not being used by combat units.
As of October 14: nearly 100 companies had joined, forming about 50 groups — six already flying combat missions and destroying 60+ Russian aerial targets.
This isn't militia-style defence. It's a controlled extension of the state's air defence network — private capital and private operators, military command and military rules.

Ukraine has targeted two neighboring Russian oil refineries in Ufa, Bashkortostan, approximately 1,500 km from Ukraine.
Bashneft-Novoil and Bashneft-Ufaneftekhim are part of the Ufa refining complex, one of Russia’s largest, with a combined regional processing capacity of approximately 24 million tonnes of crude oil annually.
Both refineries were previously attacked by Ukrainian drones in June 2026, with fires reported at crude oil processing units.
The facilities produce gasoline, diesel, aviation fuel and other petroleum products critical to Russia’s economy and military logistics.

I discussed support for Ukraine, the negotiation process, and security guarantees with U.S. senators.
I had a video call with Roger Wicker, Chairman of the U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee, and Michael Bennet, a member of the U.S. Senate Intelligence Committee.
During our conversation, the American senators raised a range of topical issues, focusing on the key challenges Ukraine faces at the current stage of its fight against Russian aggression and priority areas of bilateral cooperation.
Assessing the intensification of Russian strikes on Ukrainian cities far from the front lines, I emphasized that Russia’s attacks on civilian and critical infrastructure are systematic acts of terror that serve no military purpose whatsoever and make no fundamental difference to the frontline situation. Ukraine critically depends on U.S. assistance in the area of early warning systems for aerial threats to protect civilians during the winter.
I value the United States’ efforts to organize and advance the negotiation process, which I conveyed to the American side during our conversation. The right conditions must be created in order to achieve results, so Ukraine expects progress in the next round of trilateral negotiations.
I also highlighted the particular importance of security guarantees for Ukraine. Any peace settlement or cessation of hostilities without clear security mechanisms will not guarantee lasting peace. That is why developing reliable security frameworks involving our partners is one of Ukraine’s top priorities.
The relevant arrangements should be seen not as one-sided charity, but as a pragmatic U.S. investment in strengthening defense capabilities and its own security.
