Came on here to find @uber. You've cancelled my husband's account (he's an avid user) for unspecified violations of terms of service. Despite multiple emails, he hasn't been able to resolve. Can someone help?
Hey @ConEdison you turned off the gas to our building FIVE DAYs ago. Any plan to turn it back on? cc @nycdistrict1
1/9 Today DOJ released a revised racial profiling policy, as part of a slew of actions required by President Biden's EO of a year ago. The policy is pretty long and requires thorough analysis, but here are a few initial thoughts.

8/9 Implementation will be key. Not clear what, if anything, was done to operationalize 2014 guidance. This one has important benchmarks & designated implementation coordinator. DOJ seems serious about this part, which is good.

DOJ has made some upgrades to its racial profiling policy, but the new rules leave too much room for bias, says @faizapatelBCJ. "Too many Americans will still experience discrimination unless the department ensures this grey area isn’t abused." bit.ly/3Wz6S9o

Today @FaizaPatelBCJ & I detail challenges the NYPD Inspector General faces in effectively overseeing the police: its reporting has waned, it lacks a permanent leader, the police have stonewalled investigations, & its influence & autonomy have declined. brennancenter.org/our-work/r…

The US government's depiction of domestic #counterterrorism efforts is misleading, write @FaizaPatelBCJ and Charles Kurzman.
Based on information from a FOIA lawsuit, the authors identify problems with how @TheJusticeDept handles these types of cases.

Judge Moss found that 19 out of 20 cases he reviewed did not involve terrorism but were mostly personal disputes, concluding that the government’s representation of its counterterrorism efforts is “vastly overstated.”

"New Yorkers deserve a police department that keeps them safe and isn’t afraid to be held accountable," @FaizaPatelBCJ and @iveydyson. write. "Without a strong inspector general, that’s not what they’ll get" cityandstateny.com/opinion/2…
If you're concerned about DHS spying on protestors, this thread from my @BrennanCenter colleague is a must-read.
After months of hiding, @DHSgov issues its report on intelligence activities to suppress 2020 racial justice protests. Thanks to @RonWyden, this is a win for transparency and the revelation of weak legal protections at DHS. Let’s talk about the latter. 1/ opb.org/article/2022/10/27/n…

In today's @lawfareblog, my colleague @EbrightYon explains what an obscure law that authorizes U.S. "support" for partner forces can tell us about how the U.S. government interprets and applies its own warmaking authority. lawfareblog.com/what-can-sec…
On my walk to work today (about a mile), I kept a rough count of people on their cell phones v. those just walking. My totally unscientific count: 51 people on their phones v. 166 just walking. Does that jibe with what you think you see?
100%Seems about right
