Writing has become a way to reclaim my identity, prove that I exist, and ensure that our reality is not rewritten by someone else. This is my way of refusing to be silenced. Our lives have changed beyond words. We went from a modest, warm home to a temporary shelter surrounded by mud, as the boundaries between night and day fade into one. The weight of this injustice is too heavy to fully describe, but I have chosen to speak about it anyway. As a graduate, I once looked forward to building a career and a future for myself.
