⚡ We need thousands of electricians to install solar panels, windmills, car chargers... So here’s the choice:
🤩 Invest now. Create quality apprenticeships, train the electricians we need and build the green economy of the future
Or
😥 Do it on the cheap. Condemn a generation to unemployment. Have semi-skilled ‘fitters’ do some of what’s needed but lack the skills as a country to build the future
🪧 Take action. cutt.ly/SparxSkills

🧵Our new report with @FoEScot and Transition Economics has put a number on what Reform UK's climate policy rollback would actually cost: nearly 500,000 jobs destroyed within 3 years. That's comparable to almost every teacher in the UK losing their job. Here's what we found 👇

New polling shows twice as many people in Scotland back the Windfall Tax on oil and gas profits.
📊 41% support it
📊 19% oppose it
Support spans voters from across the political spectrum.
This comes as energy companies continue to make tens of billions in profits while households struggle with high bills.
Since 2020, oil and gas companies operating in the UK have made £125 billion in profits, and that’s with the Windfall Tax in place.
Unsurprisingly the industry is lobbying politicians to scrap the levy.
The public can see the unfairness, and as long as people see the disparity between their own living conditions and the excess profits made by energy firms, support for the Windfall Tax will continue.

The British right are pedalling a fantasy of self-sufficiency through North Sea oil and gas. This has no serious basis in reality. Britain has been a net energy importer for 20 years. it has nothing to do with net zero and everything to do with decades of declining production🧵

🤑 Would you donate to save the fossil fuel industry?
Nah, we wouldn't either, but that doesn't matter – the govt has already committed £22bn and counting of your money to a tech that's meant to reduce emissions but is actually a lifeline for oil and gas.
