VOLUNTEERS UNITED TO PROTECT OUR DEMOCRACY🗳️ We hosted our final in-person #ElectionWatch2026 observer training in Sebokeng, where volunteers expressed their excitement and commitment to safeguarding the integrity of our elections on 4 November. Their willingness to observe, report and stand for transparent elections is a powerful reminder that democracy belongs to all of us, and protecting it is a collective responsibility. On 4 November, we stand watch. 👁️ #ElectionWatch

Democracy isn’t a one-day event; it's an everyday practice. The crises we are facing as a nation: our democracy under threat, our hopelessness, our lack of participation, the violence, the hunger, the literal sewage in our streets… these issues were made over decades, and it’s going to take decades of unmaking to fix them. No one can sit that out, it’s going to take all of us. But it is not impossible. 💪🏾 We, @Mobilize_ZA, @ForDemocracySa, @MVC_SA and @capture_beyond will be sharing 10 ways you can start making civic engagement part of your lifestyle before and after 4 November. 🇿🇦 South Africa needs you. Let’s get started. 🇿🇦 #BeyondStateCapture #Mobilize #DefendOurDemocracy #ActiveCitizens #ParticipatoryDemocracy #FixLocal #MyVoteCounts #WozaLGE2026 #MakeItCount

Wade Manning thinks the Media is often interviewing the wrong people. Are top down media processes still effective? Or should we be looking towards local communites and understanding perspectives through lived experiences instead... @SAEditorsForum @LiezleWilson @aip_sa @ForDemocracySa @moxiiafrica @GermanyInsa @goethejoburg #MFF2026 @mediauj @SAEditorsForum @_FreeExpression @SOSCoalition

BEYOND THE X - Are we ready for what comes after 4 November? We co-hosted this event with Defend our Democracy, the Catholic Parliamentary Liaison Office, the Campaign for Digital Ethics (C.O.D.E.) and the Johannesburg Crisis Alliance last night. What awaits us after South Africa’s upcoming local government elections? More of the same, or a path towards better governance? Our panel brought together: 🔹 @annbernsteinSA, Executive Director, Centre for Development and Enterprise 🔹 Dr Trevor Ngwane, Senior Lecturer & Director, Centre for Sociological Research and Practice (CSRP), University of Johannesburg 🔹 Dr Len Mortimer, Senior Lecturer, School of Public Leadership at Stellenbosch University, and former Municipal Manager 🔹 Lisa SEFTEL, Joburg Crisis Alliance Steering Committee Member and former Executive Director for Transport, @CityofJoburgZA Moderated by @dailymaverick's @ferialhaffajee, the discussion tackled the big questions: 🗳️ Can we still fix local government and metros like Johannesburg that are too big to fail? 🏙️ How can we build sustainable municipalities that work for everyone? ✊ What is the best way for civil society to hold politicians accountable and drive change? „It starts with you. Use your vote wisely!” — Ann Bernstein 🎥 IN CASE YOU MISSED IT - Watch the full conversation here: 📺 youtube.com/watch?app=deskto… @ForDemocracySa @SALGA_Gov @StellenboschUni @NationalCoGTA @CDEsouthafrica @go2uj @CSRPUJ @of_spl @CPLO_SA @CODE_DigiEthics @TheJCA_

YOUR BALLOT PAPERS EXPLAINED | KNOW YOUR VOTE. OWN YOUR VOICE. As we prepare for the upcoming Local Government Elections, understanding your ballot papers is an important step towards making an informed choice and participating meaningfully in our democracy. The number of ballot papers you receive at your voting station depends on the type of municipality in which you are registered: - Metropolitan Municipalities: You will receive two ballot papers — a Ward ballot and a Metro Council ballot. - Local Council Municipalities: You will receive three ballot papers — a Ward ballot, a Local Council ballot and a District Council ballot. Knowing the purpose of each ballot helps you understand how your vote contributes to representation and decision-making in your community. At the Ahmed Kathrada Foundation, we believe that an informed citizenry is essential to strengthening democracy, promoting accountability and building responsive local government. Know your ballot before you mark it. Make your vote count. Be an active citizen. #ActiveCitizenship #LocalGovernmentElections #DemocracyInAction #KnowYourVote #KathyLegacy
