The @aerlingus agent did not understand that this was not to make our son more "comfortable" but that this was absolutely necessary for him to travel at all. We tried to find an email address for customer care but only found chat and phone numbers....

Just tried to book seats for our v. severely 6'7" disabled son, explained 2 Spec. Assist. why he needs a middle seat as close to front exit as possible and needs to be supported on both sides. At the end we were charged an extra 98 euro. Scandalous and 1st time that happened.
