Georgia audited its own data center tax breaks and found that the state gave up $474 million in sales taxes in one year—and got back just $41 million from the industry. At least 38 states have deals like this. (It's not clear whether all that money the state waived was needed to attract the construction: in Georgia's case, by the state's own estimate, 70% of the data center construction would have happened anyway.)

Today's @ArkansasOnline editorial makes the same point I made in a column re: the failed gutting of FOIA in the regular session. It is cynical in the extreme to tell Arkansans that they should give up their superior right to government information to be more like other states.

For @SarahHuckabee to say she wants Arkansas' FOIA to be "in line with other states" is like saying she wants our traffic to be like New Jersey's and our water to taste like Nevada's. Our FOIA is better; @DavidARay's bill is designed to make it worse. Please don't do it, #arleg.

Well, AR GOP, you've done it. My daughter, son-in-law and my 3 Littles are leaving Arkansas. 💔Our state is not one they want to raise their children in. I have another daughter and Little who will never move back. AR has also lost an excellent teacher and Speech Pathologist.
