The claim: xenon helps - pre-acclimate you to altitude via HIFs that trigger EPO production - protect you from altitude illness - protect your brain from hypoxic injury A new review in the journal High Altitude Medicine and Biology weighs the evidence... outsideonline.com/health/tra…

How they did it: ⛺️Hypoxic tents: spent 8 wks preacclimatizing by sleeping in normobaric hypoxia (simulated 6,000–7,000m) 🤿High-flow O₂: continuous flows up to 8 L/min, even during sleep! 6 L/min at summit = effective altitude ~2,100m! 👉O₂ not Xe made the climb feasible 9/

🏔️Earlier this year, British climbers set record by climbing Mt Everest in less than a week. 📰 The media attributed their performance to the use of inhaled Xenon gas. 📄Not so fast! Excellent new paper about xenon the ignoble gas debunks this claim & posits an alternative! 🧵
