In the Mustard app, "Timing" is measured from first forward movement into footstrike. The goal is 1.05 seconds or less. As coach @tomhouse says, "GFF" - Go Friggin Fast! - to "throw hard easy." Download the app today to see your Timing score! apps.apple.com/us/app/mustar…

Nice guys lose if they don't learn how to flip the switch when they take the mound.
Coaches want the nice guy in the locker room.
But they want a competitive motherf'er on the mound.
Finding your alter ego i.e. "game face" is a powerful tool many young pitchers overlook.

I could probably throw harder if I wanted, but why? When they're in a jam, a lot of pitchers...try to throw harder. Me, I try to locate better. -Greg Maddux

Timing
Measured from first movement into footstrike.
Looking for: footstrike in less than 1.05 seconds.
Timing is the most important variable for throwing efficiently.

Posture
We measure the amount of head drop before the lower half begins moving to home plate.
Looking for: <2% of body height of head movement up or down.
For the head to move, the knees and/or spine are changing. Bend the knees more and pre-set spine angle to fix this.

Balance
Balance = head over center of gravity throughout your throwing motion.
Looking for: Less than 15° of head movement away from the center of gravity at release.

Lift & Thrust

Looking for: at max leg lift, your flute should be as close to 25° away from the rubber as possible.

Stride Length
The stride distance of the best pitchers of all time is at or beyond 100% of their own height.
Looking for: 90% or more of your height in stride length

Torque Retention
Delaying rotation of your back shoulder towards the target for as long as possible.
Looking for: Back shoulder should not start rotating towards the target until your front foot hits the ground.

Release
When you pass all the other variables, you pass release.
Looking for: release 8-12 inches in front of your landing foot.
Drag line should be at least two of your feet long. Drag line finishes on the center line to home. Back foot stays down until ball release.

Swivel & Stabilize
Glove should end up over your landing foot and inside the width of your torso into release point.
The best pitchers of all time have stable gloves that are inside the width of their torso at release point.
Looking for: Chest to the glove, don’t tuck glove.

Go where you’ll play. Go where you’ll develop. Go where you can fail.
If you’re optimizing for prestige over playing time, development and fun, you’re putting your long-term potential in jeopardy.
