Fundamentally, the Far Right today is largely the Far Left and vice versa. Neither is capable of any fiscal discipline, and both operate on "Let's find some scapegoats to blame for market/government/cultural/social failures".
For all the hand wringing about the ‘far right’, it turns out the far left is a real danger to society. This week’s @Independent_ie column independent.ie/comment/eoin-…

+ protections of freedoms & liberties of minorities, only to deny these same freedoms & liberties to the groups (including minority groups) they object to. Great example here is the constrained space of intellectual debates within the FL, the 'cancel culture', the 'DEI ethos' +

Congratulations, MAGA. Your hero just told you 'they' are making money off your misery. A 'freaking fortune'.
TRUMP on HIGH GAS PRICES: We’re making money like we’ve never made before. They’ll say: President Trump is bragging about all the money they're making while people are suffering at the pump. I don’t give a damn. We’re making a freaking fortune.

Trump: My uncle invented radar. Can you believe it? He’ll probably be angry that I took out Iran’s radar.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Trump's uncle John G. Trump contributed to WWII radar development and deployment at MIT's Rad Lab but did not invent it. Radar originated earlier via work by scientists including Heinrich Hertz, Christian Hülsmeyer and Robert Watson-Watt. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_G._T… en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_o… britannica.com/technology/rad… physicstoday.aip.org/news/a-profile…

But there is a corruption tzar now, no?
“In late spring 2020, a source I knew to be reliable called me with a story,” writes Matthew Cole. “The Dutch government had hacked into Jared Kushner’s phone and monitored him as he accessed a Dubai-based bank account. What was odd, the source said, was that the money in the account—hundreds of millions of dollars—had come from a bank in Azerbaijan. Most importantly, Kushner appeared to have transferred significant amounts of money from the Dubai account to other individuals, including a warlord, a mercenary and a one-time hit man. The story sounded preposterous, I told my source. And yet. Six months later, I found myself speaking with someone else about the UAE government and their use of mercenaries in conflicts around the Middle East and Africa when I asked, on a whim, whether they knew anything about Kushner and bank transfers from a UAE account. My acquaintance grew quiet. Then they replied, ‘Yes.’” Kushner’s lawyer denied the bank account existed. For decades, the president has claimed charitable deductions on golf courses he never gave away. Now, facing one of the most significant tax bills of his life, he’s pushing the scheme even further—and appears to be using the presidency to get away with it. This Forbes investigation is a must-read. Donald Trump pulled in roughly $1.4 billion from crypto in 2025, plus more than $200 million from real estate, and faced a projected tax bill north of $500 million. So his company donated the "development rights" to his Jupiter, Florida golf course to a land trust, argued the course was a natural habitat worth protecting, and kept right on running the club. Forbes estimates the write-off could land around $825 million. He has done this at least five times since 2005. New York's attorney general alleged two of those appraisals were inflated. In Doral, he claimed a deduction of up to $323 million, more than double what he paid for the entire resort. A month after the Jupiter deal, he sued the IRS. The settlement his own Justice Department signed bars claims against him over matters that "could be pending," language that appears broad enough to cover this year's taxes. A federal judge found the case was brought to manipulate the judicial process. And the man now running the IRS, who took the job as this deal was being assembled, has a home backing onto those same Jupiter fairways. This is absolutely ridiculous. Nobody should be able to use the presidency to write his own tax bill. forbes.com/sites/danalexande…
