Why would we use 2024 as the baseline for Troy Jackson when Susan Collins dominated in 2020 during a Blue Wave? The same year Biden won Maine by 9 points, Collins also won by 9 vs the β€œideal” moderate dem Gideon Considering the history of Maine and his op being Collins, Troy Jackson may have had one of the best performances this cycle, especially given how he had to step in last second There are important nuances in every single one of these races. Making the distinction out to be primarily ideological doesn’t make sense I’m not ruling out that ideology is a factor btw! It’s just annoying that both the DSA and Centrist Dems are jumping on this narrative RIGHT AWAY to try and own other factions of the left. El-Sayed and Nixon both ran pretty much at pace with their gubernatorial candidates. Being β€œprogressive” really didn’t hurt them that much imo
Replying to @jolahpolitics
We're using 2024 as the baseline and measuring the shift of each candidate. Bottoms' race shifted 11 points towards democrats, which puts her just about in line with the median democratic candidate last night. Abdul did ok. Jackson underperformed. These are just facts.

DSA candidates and Blue Dogs both beat the Democratic Party average last night. Edge is small esp. once you add controls for demographics and other candidate characteristics (e.g., anybody would have crushed Paxton; Collins would have done well against any Maine Dem).

Imo the most interesting thing from these results is that dems won a tsunami on an outright anti-war platform for the most part. In 06 many dems ran on troop surges, in 08 Obama talked timetables. This year almost all dems said we needed to stop the war in Iran, period.

I agree that the reason Republicans lost is the Iran war. I would add the corruption epitomized by the Epstein cover up. Here is what I propose: 1. Support a continuing resolution prohibiting the financing of any combat activities of the U.S. military in Iran. End the Iran war like we did for Vietnam. 2. Support the zeroing out of all aid to Israel in the continuing resolution. 3. Support Massie and my Epstein 2.0 Act to allow state attorney generals to prosecute the pedophiles who abused and trafficked young girls. Will you actually now do any of these three things?
One of the things the data analysts on our side obsessed over was "composition"β€”whether the electorate looked close enough to 2024 for Republicans to win. And despite polls that showed a Democrat blowout, the data kept on telling us the same story: in some states turnout was merely OK, in other states it was downright amazing, and in no state was it catastrophic. There was a genuine sense of optimism on our team: our people were showing up. So, I asked the smartest data guy I know, does that mean we're going to shock the world? "No," he told me. "We might do better than the polls suggest. But the data is telling us that a lot of Trump/Vance 2024 voters are pissed and planning to vote for the other guys. Our voters are turning out, but they may not vote for us." Well, that looks prophetic now. Our voters did show up. In Florida, for example, the electorate was 9 points more Republican than Democrat, just a couple points worse than 2024. Undoubtedly there were places we could have done better on turnout. But the main problem is not turnout. The main problem is that many people who voted for Trump/Vance in 2024 voted for Democrats in 2026. There will be a lot of infighting and arguing over what happened and why that is. One of the pollsters I really respect told me that our economic messaging wasn’t sharp enough down the stretch. I’m sure that’s true. But the real reason we lost is obvious to almost everyone. Another pollsterβ€”one of the smartest people I know in politics, told me yesterday we’d lose the generic ballot by 13 points. I felt negative going into Tuesday, but even I was shocked by this. In his polling, he saw that a lot of Trump 2024 voters were angry and planning to vote for Democrats. He asked those voters who had abandoned us what would cause them to come back on our team. The top four answers, accounting for nearly all of the responses were: 1) End the war 2) Focus on cost of living/inflation 3) Put America First 4) Change our relationship to Israel Our voters showed up. And the above four reasons are why many of them voted for Democrats. This is according to a pollster who nailed the results. While many spent Monday attacking Rachel Campos Duffy for calling for a diplomatic resolution to the conflict, it turns out her political advice was sound. (She’s also a great person.) In the next few months, there's going to be a lot of gaslighting. Expect to hear any number of establishment politicians say the solution to our woes is amnesty. I'm open to the idea that we should change enforcementβ€”by focusing more on businesses that hire illegal labor, for instance. But anyone pushing amnesty is lying to you. The reason we lost is the war. The president himself said so last night. If you'd like to argue it was worth it, that losing the Senate for the next 6 years was worth it, then do so. Argue it was a worthwhile cost to pay. Agree or disagree, that's at least honest. But everyone knows why we lost. And any honest conversation about where we go from here must start there. I remain hopeful about our country. To the people who are pissed off and want to say, β€œI told you so”: you’re right, you did tell us so. Take that energy into electing Republicans who share your worldview. To the people who are just pissed at the results, you should be. Let’s take that anger and get back to the work of saving our country.

Notice that Schumer is pushing off a commitment to end the war until NEXT YEAR. But @VanHollenForMD and @RoKhanna are calling on Democrats to block the funding that comes with the continuing resolution on December 11th.
CNN: Schumer vows to end Iran war and investigate Trump when Democrats control Congress Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer vowed Democrats will end the war in Iran through the β€œpower of the purse” next year when they take control of the Senate. β€œWe are going to end the war. We’ve got some Republicans who have joined us in ending the war and the Founding Fathers had the power of the purse as one of the ways of deterring a president who does war without the consent of the American people,” Schumer said at a Capitol Hill news conference, a day after Democrats won the majority in the chamber.

This is why you cannot achieve the aim of stopping U.S. involvement in forever wars in the Middle East without radically downsizing or severing the relationship with Israel. The Israeli goal is not merely to find a workable accommodation for itself in the region but to continue fighting until it has established itself as the unquestioned regional hegemon and fulfilled its full territorial ambitions. It cannot achieve this on its own and can only do with intense U.S. assistance in destroying and suppressing possible rivals. They say this openly now and even in the midst of the Iran war Israeli officials were discussing Turkey as the next target of this project.
You know someone’s a real ride-or-die for Israel if they’re saying the GOP should spend the next 2 years and whatever political capital they have left intensifying the war against Iran.
