Some members of the Republican establishment will likely use this week’s election result to call for pulling back on immigration enforcement (remember their 2012 autopsy report?). Don’t let them fool you. Immigration was the only issue that helped us. It makes no sense to moderate on our strongest issue.
Voters certainly sent a message disapproving of tariffs and the War in Iran, but they sent the opposite message on immigration. According to NBC exit polls, a D+13 electorate preferred Republican immigration policies by 4 points.
If anything, I heard from a lot of voters that the administration wasn’t deporting enough aliens. Pulling back now would depress our base in future elections and lead to a repeat of this week’s result in 2028.

A cataclysmic result, and one which was entirely preventable. Previous wave elections followed seismic events (e.g., Katrina and Iraq War in 2006, financial crisis in 2008, coronavirus in 2020). This result was solely due to political malfeasance by national Republicans. ⬇️
