“In the case of social failure... the consolation consists in the belief that one’s inability to attain the lofty goals to which one has aspired is not to be ascribed to one’s own inadequacy, but to the defectiveness of the social order.”
-Ludwig von Mises

“Schneider’s letter puts a different question to the men and women who govern the IMB: What the policy is costing, and whether a Southern Baptist entity should make the violation of a missionary’s conscience the price of going to the nations.”

I’m happy to see the title of Michael’s book grabbing people’s attention.
It’s time for Christians to take an active role in the world around us and stop demanding that we do everything possible to make sure we “lose down here”.

I just spoke to a man on the phone who reached out after seeing this book advertised by Canon Press. We'd never met before.
He reached out because the title grabbed his attention and he wanted to share his experience with me. He told me he's in a church where the pastor is a gifted expositor of scripture but has some views that are troubling to him.
His pastor teaches that suffering and retreat are the Christian's default posture. He believes
* The Christian's primary duty in life is to suffer
* If someone were attacking his family he would not use force to protect them
* Christians should generally stay out of politics
* The church's only responsibility to culture is to do evangelism
That's close to word-for-word what he told me.
Every one of those beliefs is false and constitutes what I call loser theology.
I could tell the man on the other end of the phone is a man of courage. But his own church is telling him to sit down and be quiet. His pastor is telling him to lose on earth so he can be a winner in heaven.
He seemed relieved when I told him this is exactly what my book is about. I told him he's not alone and there are plenty of solid believers out there who want to be equipped for courage, not pressured to opt out.
They're tired of being told they should just lose and feel good about it.
This is who I wrote the book for.

We are officially endorsing @WillyRice for SBC President.
Willy Rice’s love for the Lord and the local church, for Baptists as a Baptist people, and his courage, conservatism, conviction, and humility have been on clear display over many years in SBC life.
He has earned our support and our vote, and we encourage all Baptists gathered in Orlando to offer the same.

The divide in the SBC is not so much between conservative and liberal (on paper) but between strong men and weak men.
The weak men accommodate--and then abdicate to--liberalism, all the while protesting that they signed the paper.
But they doth protest too much.
This is baseline for any organization that wants to be taken seriously by the people whose votes they are attempting to secure.
Pleased to announce that my LNC convention dress code proposal has officially been moved and has the necessary cosponsors to be voted on and considered by the LNC before next week!
If all goes according to plan, the LP will enter convention with a basic business casual dress code policy in place for official proceedings.
Yes, that also means the Chair or a designee would have the authority to remove blatantly unserious or unprofessional behavior from the convention floor during official business sessions.
We are so back.

I just tipped 20% on a bottle of water I grabbed out of a mini-fridge myself.
I brought it to the counter.
The cashier didn't even scan it.
He just pushed a button and spun the POS terminal around.
The screen suggested 20, 25, or 30 percent.
For a moment, I considered finding the custom tip option.
But there was a line of people behind me.
The cashier was making direct, unblinking eye contact.
I folded under the pressure of a digitized guilt trip.
I paid $4.80 for a Poland Spring.
I basically gave a teenager a dollar to legally supervise me purchasing hydration.
He didn't even offer a receipt.
He just spun the tablet back around and looked away.
I said thank you.
I thanked him for letting me give him extra money.
I am part of the problem.

When it comes to the SBC Annual Meeting, location matters. Here are some of my thoughts and concerns.

Juries don't work because you changed the people
Flying doesn't work because you changed the people
Stores, schools, hospitals--they don't work because you changed the people
You can't change the people and keep the system, the system was made for the people
Jury trials don’t work because they are no longer trials of our justice-minded peers, but rather ethnic headcount’s that are determined by the in group preferences of the jurors
Particularly, black and Hispanic jurors show a notable tendency to side with their ethnic group against the evidence of the case is an interracial one
“The question isn’t ‘Who is a pastor?’
The Bible and the BF&M make that clear: Only a biblically-qualified man.
The question is whether we, as a local association, will stand up in the midst of a watching world and say it with our chest?”

Call me crazy, but this sounds like the folks who seem to have forgotten what the Book of Church Order says about deacons

Culture isn't a magical immaterial substance that hovers over some particular piece of dirt.
It's the product of a people. This makes it stubborn and resistant to change.
All the wishes in the world won't change this basic fact.

Women shouldn’t instruct pastors in how to preach.
This isn’t complicated.
