The police have now reportedly announced that Sarah Helm’s post did not reach the criminal threshold and therefore that no further action will be taken.
So it’s illegal to express support for a proscribed terrorist organisation if you’re an ordinary person, but if you allegedly do it when you’re the wife of the National Security Advisor, that’s okay?
Aren’t we supposed to be a country where everyone is equal under the law?
With decisions like this, it’s no wonder that 89% of British Jews think the authorities are not doing enough to tackle political extremism.
Police inaction in this high-profile case beggars belief. It’s another nail in the coffin of British justice.
This is gobsmacking.
Sarah Helm, journalist and wife of Jonathan Powell, Britain’s National Security Adviser, posted this on X yesterday in response to the reports that author Sally Rooney’s books would no longer be sold in the UK due to her alleged support for Palestine Action.
Clearly, the police need to investigate and Ms Helm must face the full force of the law, just like others who appear to express support for any proscribed terrorist organisation. But this raises extremely serious questions for Mr Powell and the Government.
Spouses are entitled to independent views, but plainly Mr Powell, who leads on our country’s national security and has been intricately involved in our Middle East diplomacy, must publicly denounce this rhetoric if he is to continue in post.
If the wife of Britain’s top diplomat appears to openly support a proscribed terrorist organisation opposed to Israel’s existence, what message does that send to British Jews, many of whom are currently living in fear.

Seriously, this is extreme gaslighting to frighten ordinary people into silence. Don’t fall for it!
The Guardian warns about far right terrorism, linking it to anti immigration views… Meanwhile, lovely Ann Widdecombe was murdered, allegedly by a man with extreme left wing views!
AND of course, MI5’s own 2024 figures showed that 75% of its counter terrorism work concerned Islamist extremism. The government review found that 82% of terrorist attacks between 2017 and 2023 were Islamist.
Conflating terrorism with ordinary people’s concerns about immigration is outrageous.
But It will frighten millions of ordinary people into silence. Job done 💣

If you're curious why the media is spreading so much false information about the riots, consider:
— The French Culture Ministry paid €204.7 million in direct aid to the news media in 2023, of which Le Monde received €8.3 million, L’Humanité €6.5 million and Libération €6.3 million
— The @afpfr runs "fact-checks" in 26 languages, received €120 million from the French state in 2025, against €200.3 million in commercial revenue. @AFP is French government propaganda and disinformation
— European governments are committed through a UN agreement to spread pro-mass migration propaganda by funding it directly. The “migration compact,” which 152 governments voted for in the UN General Assembly in 2018, commits them to “stopping allocation of public funding... to media outlets that systematically promote intolerance, xenophobia, racism and other forms of discrimination towards migrants," which is broadly interpreted to cover criticism of mass migration policies
— To maintain control over news media, the European Commission funds a network of 15 fact-checking hubs with tens of millions of euros, and its rules require platforms to give priority to notices from “trusted flaggers.”
— Governments fund think tanks to produce reports, including ones demanding censorship, that the news media cover sympathetically and editorialize in support of.
— The @ISDglobal in London — which demands censorship of people it disagrees with on climate change, gender, and migration, refuses to speak with journalists, and lists a phony address — lists among its funders the British Foreign Office, the U.S. Departments of Homeland Security and Justice, the German Foreign Office and the European Commission, along with Google and Microsoft.

— Public reported in 2024 that ISD and the German fact-checker Correctiv, both government-funded, had spread false claims about German farmers and opposition politicians.

Has anyone noticed how left wing ideas get introduced simultaneously across the world and are implemented slavishly even by supposedly right-of-centre governments ?
The latest one is taxing empty properties. Eventually this will apply even to a weekend cottage.
In Spain the issue precipitated a general election; but something similar has been introduced by other EU countries and now in Britain.
But this phenomenon of the Co-ordinated international implementation of previously unknown policies has been going on for a long time. Gay marriage is another example ; open door migration is another. These seemingly unrelated ideas have one thing in common : the unknown suddenly becomes commonplace all over the western world.
But where are these things being co-ordinated ? WEF? Or is there some other great think-tank ?

This is a seriously disingenuous post from the Met Police.
As usual, @MetPoliceUK are complaining that their hands are tied and that they are powerless to act. That’s simply not true.
Under section 11 of the Public Order Act 1986, the Met must be provided with the name and address of the march’s organiser. This has not happened, so the march is illegal.
Furthermore, the Met seems to be saying that they feel that the march does not meet the conditions for calling for a ban under section 13 of the Act, so they will not even ask the Home Secretary to give her permission to ban it. She cannot instigate the banning process under the law, and can only make a decision in response to a request from the Met Commissioner. Why will he not at least make the case and seek her decision?
Worse, the Met seems not to have imposed any conditions on the march at all.
The Met can (without needing anyone’s permission) curtail the route, timing and numbers of people on any march that may cause “serious disruption to the life of the community”. That would be a use of existing powers under section 12 of the Act.
The Met can ban face coverings.
The Met can mobilise sufficient resources to arrest those who flout the law (and actually hand them over to the CPS to prosecute them rather than letting them all go at the end of the day).
But so far, we are being told in private conversations that the Met has classed the march as “low risk” – though the Met denies this.
If the Met does not classify an illegal march by extremists on the anniversary of the worst antisemitic atrocity since the Holocaust as causing “serious disruption to the life of the community”, then what is the point of having the laws at all?
A few months ago the Met banned a UKIP march in Tower Hamlets without hesitation. But when it comes to the Palestine hate marches, they always plead impotence. It is two tier policing.
Met Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley keeps saying that the law is inadequate and he needs more powers in order to do anything meaningful, but even now he is not using his existing powers.
What is inadequate is his performance over the past three years, when antisemitic hate crime has risen to unprecedented levels – a clear failure of policing for which he has never been held to account.
He must resign over this disgrace and the many travesties that have preceded it.

The biggest criticism I get is, "C'mon, you have to be exaggerating the stuff that goes on at Columbia University. There's no way it's that bad."
Exhibit A:
This book is real. So is the award.
In “A Dead White: An Argument Against White Paint” the author
argues that white paint isn’t neutral—it carries associations with purity, cleanliness, and power that tie into systems of exclusion and racism.
This from the university that gave us Mortimer J Adler and the Great Books movement.
