Having a train that takes you directly to the airport is genuinely one of the top 10 things a city can offer. No expensive taxis, no sitting in traffic, no begging someone to drop you off. Just get on the train and arrive at the airport. Every major city should have this.
All I’m saying is @HawaiiSenate and @hihousedems have a golden opportunity to do one of the most useful things ever for the people of Hawai‘i…

Why is the only grade separation LA is willing to do for transit is go underground? For once I’d love to see them at least try an elevated guideway instead of building more at-grade street cars that get stuck at every traffic light.

Surprisingly Skyline is on par with Tokyo for construction costs per km. Not bad considering we’re the most isolated metropolis on the planet and subject to the Jones Act.
NYC builds the world’s most expensive subways because
(1) the unions pack every tunnel with 4x the workers needed
(2) the MTA digs stations 2x as long as the trains so every department gets its own underground offices
(3) consultants bill 21% of the budget just to manage the waste
Madrid does the same work for $110 million per kilometer. New York charges $2.3 billion.
People’s money disappears into featherbedding, oversized holes, and contractor markups while pretending density is the problem.
