If you had trusted the settled science of the day, here is how it would have gone.
1890s: you dose the baby with Bayer's new cough syrup, the non-addictive alternative to morphine, marketed for children. It was heroin. They named it after the German for heroic.
1900s: you rub calomel teething powder on your infant's gums. It is a mercury compound, and it leaves a generation with pink disease. Swollen, peeling hands and feet, screaming for months, and some of them died.
1910s: you cook in Crisco, launched by a soap and candle company, because cottonseed oil is modern and lard is what your mother used. The process that made it solid produced trans fat, banned outright a century later.
1920s: you drink Radithor, certified radioactive water, on prescription. Eben Byers took fourteen hundred bottles for his vitality. His jaw was removed in pieces and he was buried in a lead coffin.
1930s: a chemist dissolves a new sulfa drug in diethylene glycol, which is antifreeze. It kills 107 people, mostly children, and only then does America give the FDA power to demand safety testing.
1940s: your doctor lights a Camel in the surgery. More doctors smoke them than any other brand, and the advert runs in the Journal of the American Medical Association, which sold him the page.
1950s: DDT is sprayed over your kitchen, your garden and your children at school. The man who found its insecticidal properties has already been given a Nobel Prize.
1960s: your wife takes thalidomide for morning sickness because it is remarkably safe. More than ten thousand children are born with missing and shortened limbs.
1970s: the country puts down the butter and picks up the margarine, on the instruction of the American Heart Association. The fat everybody switched to was banned in 2015 as unsafe at any level.
1980s: the fat comes out of everything and sugar goes back in to make it edible. Obesity begins a climb it has never come off.
1990s: your father is prescribed OxyContin, because fewer than one per cent get addicted. The company later pleads guilty to criminal misbranding, and the overdose count runs into hundreds of thousands.
2000s: you take Vioxx for your knee. It is pulled in 2004, and the FDA's own safety officer estimates tens of thousands of excess heart attacks.
Not one of those was fringe. Every one had a professional body, a literature and a man in a white coat standing behind it.
Nobody who followed that advice was stupid. They were obedient, to the most qualified people available.
Settled is a word about money. It means the questions stopped being funded, so they stopped being asked.
So which of today's instructions will your grandchildren read out in disbelief.
The oil washed in hexane and built into every cell you own. The statin that blocks the pathway making your hormones, to prevent one heart attack per hundred people. The injection where a third of the loss is muscle. The infant formula built out of vegetable oil.
All settled. None of it funded to be otherwise.

Great way to spend 12 minutes. Inspiring!
Most of you have seen my Oxford Speech (it has been viewed 200-300 million times around the world) but this one is actually my favourite. At last year's @arc_forum, I challenged world leaders to face the fact that we are in the fight of our lives and act accordingly.

Today, I am going to red-pill you about vegetable oils. Make sure you bookmark and share this post:
1. Unnatural Extraction Process: Unlike coconut or olive oil, which can be extracted through pressing, seed oils like canola, soybean, and corn oil require unnatural methods for extraction. They undergo processes involving high heat and chemical solvents like petroleum, leading to oxidation and the formation of trans fats even before they reach your kitchen.
2. A Modern Dietary Addition: Industrial seed oils are a recent addition to our diet, exploding in consumption from virtually zero in the early 1900s to 70 lbs per year per person today. This dramatic increase corresponds with a surge in chronic health issues, suggesting a link between seed oil consumption and modern diseases.
3. Omega-6 and Inflammation: Vegetable oils are high in Omega-6 fatty acids, especially linoleic acid, which is a precursor to pro-inflammatory eicosanoids. These molecules can cause chronic inflammation and contribute to autoimmune diseases. The excessive consumption of Omega-6, without the balance of Omega-3, exacerbates these health issues.
4. Oxidative Stress and Cancer: Studies have shown that diets high in vegetable oils, particularly linoleic acid, lead to oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, and genetic damage. These factors are instrumental in promoting cancer, with some studies revealing a fourfold increase in metastasis in diets high in these oils.
5. Increased Mortality Rate: Over a seven-year study, groups consuming high amounts of vegetable oil had a 62% greater all-cause mortality rate compared to those with lower consumption. This risk increase is more significant than that associated with heavy smoking or obesity.
6. Heart Disease Risk: The Minnesota Coronary Experiment found that participants who increased their intake of corn oil and margarine had an 86% higher incidence of heart attacks. Despite lower cholesterol levels, the vegetable oil group had a significantly higher mortality rate from heart attacks.
7. Cardiovascular Deaths: The MARGARIN Study revealed that the group consuming margarine high in linoleic acid from vegetable oils had a 700% higher rate of strokes, heart attacks, and cardiovascular deaths compared to a group consuming Omega-3-rich fish oil. This stark difference underscores the health risks of high vegetable oil consumption.
Remember, the key to a healthier life is understanding what you're putting into your body. Rethink your oil choices and opt for natural, minimally processed fats.
Cheers,
Simon

"and THAT is why, whatever issue is nearest and dearest to you, why in this election we must all be one issue voters on ending censorship and speech suppression" 🖐🎤
i had never quite put this together this way, but in retrospect, i've had this exact experience numerous times, esp with friends on the left.
"this policy mandates X."
"no, no, that cannot be true, that's too crazy to believe!"
"here is proof of X in writing."
"you're misinterpreting."
"how?"
"well, it's just an outlier! that cannot be widespread policy!"
when you actually show people, for example, the "children's books" about sex toys and bondage or the fact that taxpayers are paying to "support" male rapists as "women" and then putting them in women's prisons where they go on to commit rape, they simply cannot see it. it's too far outside their mental model. the brain just blocks it somehow or makes it seem like it must be hyperbole or "disinformation."
cognitive dissonance is a helluva drug.
when you show them that "yes, the pfizer studies were faked, the drug they shipped was not even the one they tested, and the CDC deliberately suppressed collection of adverse events and the FDA suppressed cheap, effective treatments to allow EUA's on lucrative ones that did not work," again, they simply cannot see it. it slides off of them. deep down somewhere they are sure they can "trust the system" and simply are not willing to face the wilderness of perspective change and new thought required to stop doing so.
this is the human phenomenon upon which "the big lie" is based. do somehting sufficiently outrageous, and no one can believe it. they cannot even see it. their mind makes up a story to explain it away.
but overton windows do shift and ours is shifting hard. people are seeing. they are waking up. and once in motion this is going to keep going, on and on because every thread you pull loosens 5 more and every awakened sleeper arouses the one next to them.
the integument of trust in technocracy has been cracked.
and now it's time to let everyone see what was really inside.
it's a gradual process but an inexorable one.
be patient, it takes a while for the mass of humanity to adjust to a new perception of reality and illusions hurt when you shuck them off.
but it does happen.
we just need free speech and free information.
this is the underpinning of all else and all this change.
and THAT is why, whatever issue is nearest and dearest to you, why in this election we must all be one issue voters on ending censorship and speech suppression.
the society we save may be our own.
