Good on Andy Carroll for speaking out, I'm sure it must have been hard to do. He has written in his book Owning It, published today, that he was sexually assaulted in 2021 while at Newcastle. He says a “celebrity mate” of his then partner stayed at his house after a match, to watch boxing. Carroll went to bed. He woke to the man assaulting him. He threw him out and hit him when he tried to come back in. He called the police.The man denied it. A jury found him guilty of sexual offences. He was jailed for three years, put on the sex offender register and banned from Carroll’s village. Carroll says the trial was humiliating. He nearly left the chapter out. He included it in case it helps someone else. He has not named the attacker in the coverage.
