We have a commentary out on some really interesting findings by colleagues in UCL and Finland on some of the maths behind some of the high profile shingles -> dementia analyses. In brief + Paper: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/4245… Commentary: kwnsfk27.r.eu-west-1.awstrac…

the @ASA_UK complaint I made was upheld about Do Health @drchatterjeeuk. Commercial screening brings false positives, false reassurance, overdiagnosis. Will the @gmcuk act on the dozens of drs making false claims and have commercial conflicts of interests?

1/ We discovered something totally unexpected about the neural structure of consciousness that overturns decades of thinking on its biological basis and brings us significantly closer to the recipe for generating conscious awareness. >math professor spends a year on one of the hardest unsolved problems in math >"Navier-Stokes" >his drafts for the whole project went through codex sessions >openai had his logs in codex >suddenly rumor leaks AI solved it >he emails openai to ask what's going on >openai calls within days >"funny story, our model also solved it" >using his exact approach >asks openai: did you train on my sessions? >no answer
If I am reading this correctly, Tristan Buckmaster is alleging OAI has a resolution of Navier-Stokes(via Córdoba and Martínez-Zoroa’s program) which maybe used info from Buckmaster and Levent Alpöge’s private Codex sessions What the fuck is happening!!!

I have a concern we may be looking at misdiagnosed cases of functional cognitive disorders here- particularly given the example of not being able to walk but just not enough information to make any judgments in any direction

But…it was the opposite, I developed a low-cost Covid vaccine technology that actually bypassed big pharma. We did this at $2-4 per dose, reached 100 million people, saved an estimated 300,000-500,000 lives. I made nothing. It’s incredible to watch people cede all their critical thinking skills to conspiracy sites. This is how totalitarian and communist regimes thrive

A long thread on a quasi experimental study modelled on the @Nature paper using Welsh data and suggesting live shingles vaccine protects against dementia. Sadly in 20 times the sample size using precisely the same quasi experimental design we showed no such apparent protection
Does the (live) shingles vaccine protect against dementia? We provide important evidence in a new preprint using hospital data from the whole of England in a regression discontinuity design where we *don't* show strong evidence of a causal effect +

I’m not a BMA member, but this statement is one I support: Reducing funding for clinical academics when numbers are already in decline fails to recognise their contribution to the health & wealth of the UK. The financial saving is minimal but I fear the costs will be substantial
Responding to @officestudents guidance from the Secretary of State for Education setting out funding for 2026-27 for universities that imposes cuts to funding for medical academics: bma.org.uk/bma-media-centre/…

RETRACTED! TL;DR: This study, which claimed the time of day had massive effects on immunotherapy efficacy, but which appeared fraudulent, now seems to certainly have been fraudulent. Many thanks to the editors at Nature for handling this quickly and correctly.
A lot of the key details of this study point towards the result not being real. I think we ought to regard it as fraudulent until proven real🧵 To start, the result is as strong as the observational results from the earlier literature. That's very unusual for a trial!
