As for trust: telcos have not pushed back on exponentially growing lawful interception requests, something we found out only because they complained about the cost of this surveillance to the government. That is one of the factors that favours messaging and calling OTT.

Great session. A point I made here I'd like to talk about here: telcos in India could have escaped the OTT monster (WhatsApp) by offering three simple things: features, quality of service, and trust. Lack of inter-carrier VoLTE and rich messaging features fed WhatsApp's success.
