what does @wesstreeting mean when he refers to the NHS as broken? Fixing the health care delivery system must include social care, a long term strategy for tackling the root causes of current challenges, and avoid changing the NHS funding model bmj.com/content/386/bmj.q152…

How about some radiotherapy for early Dupuytren’s disease? Exploring the topic with Dr Richard Schaffer during our recent Mersey Hand and Wrist meeting in Liverpool. Thanks @sjlips and @PrashJesudason for organising!

I'm engaging in outstanding discussions with leaders of change in health & care from across the globe at #Quality2024. A big theme is how relationships & relatedness are increasingly becoming the primary focus of change methodologies. Read this blog from @NENC_NHS on how a theory of change was co-created with its learning & improvement community, based on building relationships for change across a big system: boost.org.uk/building-a-theo…. Thank you @annielaverty & @SHamiltonCPFT for your leadership. PS: follow the International Forum on Quality & Safety in Healthcare at #Quality2024.

I'm at #Quality2024 live, listening to @AmyCEdmondson talking about principles from her book “The Right Kind of Wrong – The Science of Failing Well”. Amy differentiates three kinds of failures in organisations: 1) Basic failures: caused by carelessness or ignorance 2) Complex failures: caused by a combination of multiple systemic factors, none of which would have caused failure on its own 3) Intelligent failures (the most productive kind): where organisations/teams test new ideas, at small scale to learn & develop. Graphic from @tnvora: lnkd.in/eJkXxNTS Here's another article on Amy's book that focuses on psychological safety & risk taking: lnkd.in/eqS3P2bM Via @HBSWK

The exponential rise in mental health referrals for young children is coupled with eye-watering long waits for help, yet early intervention is key to better outcomes. There is a compelling moral and economic argument to prioritise our children’s health. thetimes.co.uk/article/d54f2…

Another excellent article about the book by @AmyCEdmondson "Right Kind of Wrong: The Science of Failing Well". In an interview with @HarvardBiz, Amy says experimentation and risk-taking are crucial for organisational success but they should be enabled within a coherent framework. She sets out the criteria for "smart experimentation": hbr.org/2023/07/its-ok-to-fa… #Quality2024

I am about to join @donberwick for a masterclass about reducing waste and improving quality in our health service. Thankyou to @BevanCommission - this is a pinch me moment, I can’t believe that I’m going to meet a man who I have admired and quoted for years.

The misery of housing rental. English monthly wage about £2,700 a month. Average rental £1276 a month. In London, £2035. No wonder there is widespread food insecurity and cold homes. Mr Micawber’s budget. theguardian.com/commentisfre…
