Freedom House ranks Russia-occupied Ukraine the least free place on earth—several points below North Korea.
That matters for the Washington debate over “territory” & a possible deal with Russia.
Glad to join @AtlanticCouncil to discuss what is at stake:

“Russian victory would weaken America and draw us into further conflict. If Putin is not stopped, he will go further—into nations we are treaty bound to defend.
We do not need to send a single American soldier to Ukraine. But in 1994, we promised to assist the country if it came under attack from Russia. America is strong when we keep our word. Helping Ukraine defend itself today can bring an enduring end to Putin’s war and blunt his attacks on the free world.”
Maria Kalesnikava spent 5 years in prison for her opposition to Lukashenka's repression and support for free elections. This week in Warsaw, @kyleparkernet & @rkbauman met with @by_kalesnikava who continues to fight for the release of Belarus’s remaining 800+ political prisoners.

Today, our delegation is returning home after meeting with several foreign leaders, including President Zelensky in Ukraine. After years of war and atrocities unleashed by Putin, the Ukrainian people remain dedicated to the defense of their homeland.
Their cause is one that impacts every free nation, and their ability to innovate rapidly on the battlefield is inspiring. We will carry these insights back to Washington as we continue working toward an enduring, just peace.

Proud to spend a Sunday with the US Army units at @NATO’s Bemowo Piskie Training Area (BPTA) in Northern Poland. While a multinational effort, U.S. servicemembers and equipment like the legendary M1 Abrams tanks are leading the way on NATO’s eastern flank: Projecting power, deterring aggression, and reassuring Allies.

For nearly five years, people across Ukraine have lived with the reality that something like this can happen anywhere in the country, at any hour of the day or night. No person, no place, no moment is safe.
DISTURBING CONTENT: Brand new surveillance footage captures the moment a Russian strike hits a neighborhood outside Kharkiv, Ukraine, killing three people and injuring dozens.
Among those killed is a teenage boy seen riding his scooter moments before the blast, along with a store employee who had stepped outside for some air.
“There were two strikes to our warehouse, and it was awful…It was deliberately and purposely planned by Russia to damage all textbooks because it was just a month before the start of the new school year.” —Viktor Kruglov, CEO of Ukraine's Ranok Publishing. (1/2)

This week, I attended the @OSCE Parliamentary Assembly meeting in Andorra for bipartisan, bicameral, and bilateral conversations on issues that require international cooperation.
I urged this gathering to take strong action against Big Oil’s free-to-pollute business model.

Emotional visit to Treblinka with members of the @HelsinkiComm. Nearly one million Jewish lives were extinguished within these gates, at the hands of Hitler’s SS. With antisemitism on the rise in the #OSCE region, places like these are a sobering reminder of our commitment to live up to the pledge: #neveragain.
