No, that's not right. We are replacing existing grants and settlements full of strings-attached with an income stream, the growth of which will be determined by growth in local income taxes.
As you know, we're going to work together with Mayors on this. But let's not forget that the existing grants (which will shape, but won't fully determine, the baseline) already seek to account for local need/population.
The PM, and the whole team working on this, are clear that there will be sharp incentives for growth for mayors. And, as we say in the statement, the design of this massive and decisive set of changes will be determined by continuing to work together with Mayors.
Great evening hitting the doorsteps for Shirin Georgiani in Balham and Tooting Bec! Fantastic to have my friend @LiamConlon2 join us. This by-election is crucial: it decides who runs Wandsworth. Vote Labour to stop Tory cuts and chaos.

Honoured to become Chair of the Labour Party.
I joined our party as a teenager and saw first hand the difference a Labour government makes.
I'll work with members to build the election-winning machine that sees off Reform for good and secures a second Labour term.

Pubs deserve our backing. I’m not sure some of @JohnHealey_MP's choices here do though...
Our 20% cut in business rates will benefit thousands of pubs, clubs and music venues across the country.

Ignore the misinformation. Thanks to @SadiqKhan and this Labour Government, crime in our city is falling and London is one of the safest global cities in the World.
Making London safer is my top priority, and our efforts are paying off.
Met data shows neighbourhood crime is down by 14%, including a 11% fall in personal robbery.
These results show the impact of long-term investment, effective policing and communities working hand in hand.

ALT Infographic from the Mayor of London showing reductions in neighbourhood crime in London compared with the same period last year. A bar chart highlights three offences with lower recorded crime levels: theft from the person down 23%, personal robbery down 11%, and vehicle offences down 9%. Text states that latest figures show reductions across three key neighbourhood crime offences.
