Shoutout to therapists, who parkour from talking about political anxieties to infidelity to childhood trauma to celebrating milestones to grief to climate change concerns to harm reduction to parenting strategies to last night’s bad date in the span of a day or even in a session.

Somewhere along the way, many social sciences divorced themselves from the philosophy of science and adopted positivism in the name of “rigor” While (post)positivism have their place (and are necessary in some research) they are not the only epistemologies than can be used.

as a mixed method researcher…we don’t talk enough about how you need the kind of nuance provided via interviews, ethnography, focus groups etc…to be able to form and ask the right questions for your quantitative surveys.

The thing I like about qualitative work is that sometimes you gotta spend a little time in the community and take history seriously to get a better understanding of certain demographics. They ain’t filling out that survey. I get in trouble every time I say that, but it’s true.

Harrison Butker grew up wealthy because his mother, Elizabeth Keller Butker, is a medical physicist at the Emory University Department of Radiation Oncology.
Not a word Harrison Butker says here should be remotely controversial. He’s 100% correct. Those trying to convince women that being assistant VP of lending & intentionally childless at age 40 is more fulfilling than making a family and home are evil.

As a reviewer, I need people to understand that qualitative research is not just vibes. You can’t just say you “did thematic analysis” and then present research based on vibes alone.

NEW: @UTAustin changes its message again, now says students arrested during protests will not have their access to campus restricted at all. They could face bans to campus at a later date -- once finals are over. Here's our updated story: kut.org/education/2024-04-26…
