The TRO in Louisiana does not stop at the NCAA. It expressly reaches “all persons acting in concert or participation with it.” The SEC is no stranger. It is at a minimum a participant. It is a conference that participates In NCAA sanctioned contests, conditions conference competition on NCAA bylaws, and has its commissioner Greg Sankey signing affidavits in cases where the NCAA (not the SEC) is a named defendant. If the SEC now attempts to keep players off the field after they terminate their pro deals, the SEC is also acting in concert with the NCAA. And a judge in Louisiana may find it to be in contempt.

The District Court of Colorado didn't even wait until the end of the weekend to rule on the NCAA's emergency motion for clarification of the preliminary injunction giving Class of 2022 players eligibility. It didn't go the NCAA's way, but many players won't be pleased. The court clarified its prior order by enjoining the NCAA from prohibiting Class of 2022 athletes from competing in a 5th season under any NCAA bylaw. That's quite broad. But the court also confirmed the injunction DOES NOT enjoin NCAA transfer rules and doesn't stop schools from making their own eligibility calls based on whether an athlete was over 20 at the time of enrollment. Athletes will be disappointed with the lack of transfer relief. The NCAA also won't be satisfied. Expect the NCAA to appeal ASAP. The clarification motion set the table for that.
