Weird how this answers a question that floated idly though my mind recently. Props to @MerriamWebster and the great John Milton
John Milton coined ‘sensuous’ so that he wouldn't have to use ‘sensual.’ ‘Sensual’ usually describes gratification of the senses or physical appetites as an end in itself. ‘Sensuous,’ on the other hand, usually implies pleasing of the senses by art or similar means.

Thing I didn't know: Sajak took over as DJ on the same Armed Forces Network show hosted by Adrian Croneaur, the "Good Morning, Vietnam" guy.
Pat Sajak is 80 years old today. Here he is while serving in Vietnam.

German police said they had detained a suspect after fire broke out at a historic mountain guest house known as the "Eagle's Nest," used as a retreat by Nazi officials, including the dictator Adolf Hitler. Police are investigating whether the suspect, who was detained close to the scene, was connected to the fire, they said in a statement. cnn.it/4iC6mUG

On Saturday, the Desert Shield and Desert Storm Memorial opens in Washington, D.C., honoring the courage and sacrifice of American servicemembers who answered the call to defend freedom and helped liberate Kuwait. Their service will never be forgotten.

For years now, Western media has told us the B-21 Raider has a 132-foot wingspan. Chinese media has claimed it's as small as 125 feet. Now, we know they were both wrong. The B-21 Raider is a LOT bigger than that. youtu.be/k8W3IJOf6Y8?si=G4iJ…

Never forget them.
October 23, 1983. Beirut, Lebanon. 43 years ago today at 0622, 241 American service members were killed in a terrorist attack on the Marine barracks in Beirut. 220 Marines. 18 Navy sailors. 3 Army soldiers. That same morning, 58 French paratroopers were killed in a separate attack. It was the deadliest single day for the United States Marine Corps since Iwo Jima. And today, much of America is silent. These weren’t just numbers in a casualty report. They were young Americans who raised their right hands, swore an oath, and answered their nation’s call. They had names. They had families. They had plans for their lives. They had people waiting for them to come home. They never got that chance. There are memorials bearing their names. There are families who have lived 43 years with empty places at their tables. There are brothers in arms who have never stopped remembering. But remembrance should not belong only to those who knew them. A nation that sends its young men and women into harm’s way has an enduring responsibility to remember those who never return. Their sacrifice should not disappear from our national consciousness simply because the years have passed, the headlines have faded, or the mission ended without victory. We remember Iwo Jima. We remember Pearl Harbor. We remember September 11. We must remember Beirut. Not because of politics. Not because of how the mission began or ended. Because 241 Americans died serving their country, and their lives deserve to be remembered. Say their names. Tell their story. Teach the next generation what happened on October 23, 1983. They came in peace. They served with honor. They must never be forgotten. Semper Fidelis. 🇺🇸❤️ #Beirut1983 #BeirutMarines #BeirutMemorial #NeverForget #SemperFidelis #USMC #MilitaryHistory #RememberTheFallen #TheyCameInPeace #HonorTheirSacrifice #Lebanon1983 #Marines #Veterans #GoldStarFamilies #SayTheirNames

An article in the New Yorker makes the case that "In America the reading of books is up". This is unfortunately not the case. Reading and literacy levels are in severe and sustained decline. 1/

I’ve been dying to answer this question. My standouts (based on the number of times I’ve recommended them to others) are From Strength to Strength by @arthurbrooks and The Running Ground by @nxthompson.
