Carrier critics: Aircraft Carriers (which move) are "sitting ducks" in today's ISR saturated, precision strike environment
Also carrier critics: Shore-based air (which operates from static airfields) is the solution.

Little chance of a war in the SCS. Could PRC do a Johnson South redux vs PH? Possible
US NatSec guilty of making Taiwan a cause celebre and not meeting its MDT obligations wrt PH.
Contesting PRC in the SCS requires political cohesion among FOIP chanting nations. No sign of it.
If war begins between China and US and its Pacific allies, it will start in the South China Sea and near the Philippines, not Taiwan. Events are reaching a breaking point in the South China Sea between China and the Philippines and it’s only a matter of time before either there is a major incident at sea or China openly takes some islands off the Philippines by force.

RAF Fairford update from @TerrorismPolice:
This morning two men have been charged under the National Security Act, following an extensive investigation into activity which took place near RAF Fairford on Sunday 27 September.
Head of National Counter Terrorism Policing in the UK, Assistant Commissioner Laurence Taylor, said:
“Earlier this morning, Nouman Essghir, 24, a British national from the Borough of Westminster, London, was charged under Section 4 of the National Security Act 2023, for suspected activity on Saturday 22 August. He was first arrested at the scene in Gloucestershire on Sunday 27 September, and re-arrested on 20 October.
“Essghir will appear at Westminster Magistrates Court this morning.
“A second man, a 25-year-old dual UK/Iranian national, re-arrested on the same date, has been released without charge. However, he remains on police bail following his first arrest on Thursday 1 October.
“Following the re-arrest of these individuals, detectives also interviewed a further man under caution.
“As a result, Mohammed Abdul Karim, a 24-year-old British national, from the Borough of Westminster, London, has been charged under Section 3 of the National Security Act 2023, which makes it an offence to assist a foreign intelligence service.
“In this case, we believe that country to be Iran. Karim will appear at Westminster Magistrates today.
“The five other men arrested in connection with this investigation, remain on police bail.
“We have seen a range of incidents in recent months that we believe have been directed by the Iranian state, and as the Director General of Mi5 said just the other week, we are working together to intervene, identify and respond to that threat.
“The public can help us with this, and as always, I would urge them to report anything that they’re worried about – those reports can and do make a difference.”

Waah Modi Ji! Waah!
Heartiest congratulations to my dear friend, President Lula, on his remarkable re-election victory.
I look forward to working closely with him to further deepen and expand the multifaceted India-Brazil Strategic Partnership.
Together, we will continue to strengthen our cooperation across diverse sectors, advance the shared priorities of the Global South and work towards a more inclusive, equitable and sustainable world.

Everybody and his uncle knew when the initial order for 100 was given that it was inadequate.
You can play name games with DAP vs DPP, revise it every other year but not really change the fundamentals.

Meanwhile in AUKUS news.
This is the easy part. The commitment on selling brand new Virginias to RAN has already been cast aside for second hand boats.
And the fun will really start when Aus starts to build the UK design at home.
A question of when AUKUS will fail not If.

The Election Commission has filed its reply in the Supreme Court to the petition on how the three-member Commission functions.
27 pages, approved by all three members. Its argument: every decision was unanimous, and a Commissioner’s note is a “suggestion,” not a decision.
Here’s what it addresses, and what it doesn’t.

Your regular reminder that the Americans operated from Indian bases during WW2.
And among other things, stored chemical weapons on Indian soil, though not employed vs Japan.
THE HUMP.
A Medal of Honor for actions today in a "forgotten" war that cost a third of the pilots who flew "The Hump." Major Horace S. Carswell Jr. was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for remaining at the controls of his crippled B-24 and saving his crew over China. He served with the 308th Bomb Group, which had to transport its own fuel over "The Hump" - the deadly Himalayan air route that claimed over 600 aircraft and 1,650 airmen. One third of pilots never came home.

Certainly part of the problem. Our poor state of PME, lack of informed scrutiny of military, larger national traits all contribute to this.
But also a failure of the political class and ultimately citizenry.
HDM----> CMR ---> State of the Republic
My op-ed in @the_hindu newspaper this morning, on the leadership deficit in the military.
"There is something gravely flawed with our leadership training. Many young officers start out as gallant captains and majors. Why then, when they become generals, admirals and air marshals do so many fail to seize the moment?"

Wow! ECI says in its affidavit that “Declaration NOT a part of Form 6” but in its press release of 26.9.2026, it said “The declaration attached to Form 6 for SIR has been upheld by the Hon’ble Supreme Court.”
ECI indulging in word play to avoid accountability?!
Beyond the usual IAF tantrums there is a major trap to avoid which even some of our better BTDTs don't seem to get.
TCs must report to RM.
All this "op role" for CDS just reveals how non strategic we are.
If caliber of RM is a problem, address that structurally.
Both things are simultaneously true
a. Entire approach to major NatSec reforms-from how CDS/DMA was created to TCs is half-baked as usual and deeply flawed
b. The IAF's arguments are bogus. And it will undermine TCs post implementation too
Now, just implement and fix later.
My take: Despite all the naysayers, #TheatreCommands will finally be announced within this fiscal itself! It will then take 18 months for the 3 theatre commands to become a reality on the ground. All this talk about not dividing air assets has been factored in for long!
Huh, what?
Bofors was also built on a single news report.
Pentagon Papers too.
#BREAKING on Bar & Bench
Election Commission of India files counter affidavit in Supreme Court on plea against CEC's functioning; says petition built entirely on a single news report
What ECI says:
🔹 Affidavit approved unanimously by all three members: the CEC and both Election Commissioners
🔹 All three SIR orders (June 2025, October 2025, May 2026) were unanimous decisions of the Commission
🔹 Notes, queries or suggestions by the CEC or ECs while a file moves are not decisions of the Commission
🔹 Files go to one EC, then the other EC, then the CEC. In urgent cases, approval is taken electronically and recorded on file later
🔹 Any officer issuing orders beyond delegated powers will face action
🔹 July 28 work allocation order was issued by an Additional Secretary on deputation. Both ECs wrote to the Cabinet Secretary the next day. The order was never implemented after the ECs' joint direction of July 30
🔹 Form 6 has not been amended. Only the Centre can amend it. The SIR declaration is a separate document
🔹 Admits the online display could be read as an amendment. From October 21, the online application will be split into Form 6 and the declaration, as in the physical form
🔹 Unmapped voters need not attend hearings. BLOs will collect documents from their homes. Hearings only in exceptional cases, preferably online
🔹 ECINet: no name is added or deleted except by order of the ERO. A committee with experts from IIT and IISc has been set up to check compliance
🔹 Goa: of 97 "left out" voters, 88 had already been enrolled, 6 were abroad and 3 held Portuguese passports
🔹 West Bengal appeals against inclusion of voters were filed by officers of the CEO, West Bengal, under Supreme Court orders. "These matters were not brought to the Commission"
🔹 Plea to restrain the CEC is not maintainable. CEC can be removed only like a Supreme Court judge
🔹 Commission never released or authorised the release of any internal note or file to the media
🔹 Repeated challenges to EVMs already rejected by the Supreme Court
🔹 Short reply filed due to Dussehra vacation. ECI seeks liberty to file a detailed para-wise response

What is the hallmark of Desi strategic culture?
- A lack of rigor in planning and think thru
- A low bias for action
When combined with certain overarching negative "national traits" what could possibly go wrong?
