The people who inspire us along the way can shape how we support the next generation.
For Black History Month, biomedical scientist Thora Paul reflects on the role her community has played in her journey, the importance of giving back and her passion for making science more accessible.
“Growing up, I did not really see many people who looked like me doing what I aspired to do, so I hope to inspire those coming after me to pursue their dreams.”
Through her @itsbiomed social media platforms, Thora is helping young people access information and advice about pursuing a career in biomedical science.

A full circle moment for Harvey’s Lab Tours.
Recently, Sarah Schnellmann-Smith, an Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist at University Hospitals Sussex, helped one of her young patients on a Harvey’s Lab Tour.
But Sarah had a special connection to the programme. More than a decade ago, she cared for Harvey Baldwin during his treatment for leukaemia, before the laboratory tours he inspired began.
Now, through seven-year-old Teddy’s visit to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Sarah has seen Harvey’s legacy come full circle.
