1/50 This is a one-stop-shop thread for all the states in our #50Weeks50Constitutions series.
Remember, the threads are in chronological order of oldest state constitution. First up, New Hampshire:

1. Before the “united States of America” declared their independence in July 1776, a few of them had pretty much done that already by adopting their own written constitutions. The first one was New Hampshire, on January 5 of that year. #50Weeks50Constitutions
I wish Branagh did more Shakespeare flicks. It's like we were cheated of the plays he didn't make a movie of.
But of those he has done, this may be my favorite scene.
Happy St Crispin's Day!
"But we in it shall be rememberèd—
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition"

Hearing this article discussed on a #GLoP episode would be like distributing crack to their listeners. @rcbl @jpodhoretz @JonahDispatch.

Interesting state v. federal power issue with an intra-federal separation of powers bonus feature. Would be a fun law school exam if it weren't deathly real.
I brought a microphone to the Tenth Circuit Ben & Bar Conference. You won't believe what I heard!
(Don't worry, all recorded voices were very willing and able to be included.)
Our Latest Podcast: Tales From the Tenth.
All about the Tenth Circuit! With practitioners Neil Sandhu, Julian Ellis, Kaity Tuohy, and Gregory Kerwin of the Tenth Circuit Historical Society.

Just such a fun chart here from @greg_ip. If only we could tease out some meaning. Ah, well, nevertheless. 🤣

Replying to @Mattzwolinski @IlyaSomin
I think you're right. Economic and political freedoms are actually a package deal, and it's not accidental the correlation between them is so strong. The way I think about it is that they are both systems for making the life of incumbents hard. The way economic incumbents keep competition out indefinitely is by political connections, and the way political incumbents keep power indefinitely is by taking control of the distribution of economic benefits. So it's not really feasible to have economic freedom without democracy or democracy without economic freedom. @VincentGeloso and @ATabarrok have a nice paper looking more closely at the empirics.

Kushner's lawyer says he intends to pursue legal action against "those responsible for publishing and disseminating" the Vanity Fair allegations. Those will be some billable hours for Jared given this story is being disseminated all over Twitter, including by elected officials.
Let me be clear: We intend to pursue legal action against those responsible for publishing and disseminating these categorically false and defamatory allegations. We are preserving all legal rights and remedies and will address these matters in the appropriate forum, not through exchanges on social media.

I am tired of seeing books that I can read whenever I want added to "banned books" tables.
If bookstores want to show they are brave, show the Satanic Verses. They should have copies of the Charlie Hebdo issue that spurred that massacre.
If you want to be brave, be brave.

I rolled my eyes a little at the people wargaming “what if Trump doesn’t concede” in 2020. And then, well, you know
The Americans of Somali heritage (many born here) working at my local Minnesota Walmart do not own Mercedes. But I hope they vote.

Emphasizing again that we cannot treat this as just business as usual. This is the President of the United States openly attacking an entire ethnic group.
Had a @ShortCircuit_IJ podcast today in Cambridge, MA with @mollyxbrady @realBurhanAzeem & @AriBFla on zoning & the Euclid & Nectow cases. Later, @aintthatZo Ari & I visited the property at issue in Nectow! It's mostly an MIT building now. Sadly, tho, no historical plaque.

Today, SCOTUS denied cert. in @IJ's SWAT-takings cases.
Justices Sotomayor and Gorsuch wrote respecting denial in the related case of O'Donnell v. Chicago.
As in IJ's previous petition in Baker v. McKinney, the Justices said the issue would benefit from even more percolation.
Both of @IJ’s SWAT-raid takings cert. petitions have been relisted from the long conference.
Hadley v. South Bend and Pena v. Los Angeles will be re-conferenced this Friday.
Whether you read Proust or not, if you live in Cambridge you can still make today's Short Circuit Live on the history of zoning! A few last-minute RSVPs are coming in right now.
Just had a very Harvard moment. Am in a bar by campus (for this event tomorrow, which you can still RSVP for!) with the copy of Proust I just started reading. A waiter spies it & asks "oh, is that the Lydia Davis translation?"

Amazing the culture impact of Monty Python. Mike Tirico just saying "the correction has just been corrected" about a Cowboys v. Packers possible interception is obviously am homage to "Those responsible for sacking the people who have just been sacked have been sacked."

Matt Yglesias wants you to die in a plane crash, apparently. nytimes.com/2026/10/16/opini…
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Yglesias argues US 1500-hr pilot rule (vs Europe ~200) is job protection raising fares, not safety. Europe has comparable safety per IATA. He says he wants no crashes, just to end a pretextual rule. Colgan pilots exceeded 1500 hrs.
